Are We Having FUN Yet?

I just got back from my first "Official" road trip. It was a quick blast from Nashville to Memphis, Tennessee, where I attended the season opening SUPER CHEVY Show. And, it turned out to be a "blast" in more ways than one.

First of all, I love looking at other people's Chevy's. And I've found SUPER CHEVY Shows to be an excellent place to do just that. The quality and quantity of Chevelles in attendance at Memphis was incredible, but my weekend was really made, however, when I noticed ACES license plates on some of the participants' cars and Charter Member T-shirts on members themselves. I was even fortunate enough to run into and chat with some ACES members while at the show: Larry Richardson, David Feezor, Sue and Rich Brodtrick, Billy Thacker, Steve Mauer, and John and Elaine Henderson were all there really enjoying themselves.

Sometimes I don't know which is the most pleasurable pastime....Looking at Chevelles, or meeting the people that own them! John and Elaine Henderson are an excellent case in point.

I met the Hendersons at the last year's Memphis event. They own a gorgeous black '67 Super Sport that caught my attention because of its similarities to my own '67 El Camino. Both are black, lowered considerably, and have a minimum of frills. But after talking with John and Elaine for a while, I learned a lot more about them than merely what they had under the hood. They live in Greenwood, Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis, where cars, family, and a middle class work ethic comprise the essentials of life. Sound familiar?

Needless to say, we hit it off, and the Henderson's became one of the first members of ACES once we got rolling. This year, we made plans to meet in Nashville as they made their way to Memphis, and to finish the trip together. Unfortunately, my El Camino suffered from leaking brake calipers, and couldn't make the trip, so I dusted off the '66 convertible and I cruised to Memphis with it, instead. Blasting down I-40, it was a kick to watch folks match our pace so they could get a longer look at the pair of Chevelles. Getting the thumbs up from several of them really made our day, too, especially from younger people who probably weren't even born yet when these cars were new. To make a long story short, the trip to Memphis this year was special, since it was the first event attended as an ACES representative, and the Henderson's made it even more special because Chevelles and the "Chevelles and the people who own them are what makes this all worthwhile!"people that own them are what make this all worthwhile! You can look for coverage of the Memphis SUPER CHEVY Show in the next issue of CHEVELLE WORLD.

Astute members will also notice that this issue is just a tad fatter; we've added four more pages to the editorial package. Take a look at the ACES Associates listings for Chevelle clubs that will provide interaction and involvement on a local level. We recommend joining one for the support and camaraderie of other Chevelle enthusiasts in your area. More pages also means expanded "how-to" coverage, something that all members can't seem to get enough of. As our membership continues to grow and funding becomes available, we plan even more upgrades for CHEVELLE WORLD. Stick around, it'll only get better!

So, in answer to the question posed at the top of the column, "Are we having fun yet?" From my perspective, the response is absolutely, positively, and unquestionably, YES!!! We hope you are, too.
