The Steering Column

Wow!Whew!

I don't know which is more applicable: Wow! or Whew! Actually, they're both quite appropriate. Wow! because I'm completely blown away at the response from all you Chevelle lovers out there (We're already almost 500 strong, and are certain to be past that number by the time you read this). And Whew! because of the amount of club-related "stuff" that needs to be handled on a regular basis. Not that I'm complaining... In fact, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support of ACES., especially all the members who wrote or called with compliments and words of encouragement. As much as I'd really like to thank each member individually, time, simply won't permit, and I hope you'll accept my words of appreciation here, instead.

Many of you have asked about getting an extra "Charter" member T-shirt or two for your "significant others." As much as we'd like to accommodate your requests, we only printed up 1000 of them, and they will go ONLY and to the first 1000 paid memberships. By doing so, we hope to maintain and protect the exclusivity of being an ACES "Charter" member. However, in order to fill your requests for additional ACES T-shirts, we are having more printed up, but they will lack the "Charter Member" logo AND the status that goes along with it. We'll inform you of pricing and availability ASAP.

Since it's March already, spring is just around the corner an we'll all be able to enjoy our Chevelles a bit more now. Not that we haven't enjoyed working on and improving them over the winter. It's just that I've always felt that driving my Chevelle was the best part of ownership. Besides, it's hard to get anybody to give me a thumb's up while it's parked in the garage!

Speaking of getting out with our Chevelles, I plan on attending several SUPER CHEVY Shows this year, including Memphis ( Apr 13-14), Indianapolis (July 19-21), Maple Grove (July 27-28), and Rockingham (Sept 21-22). I hope to meet as many club members as possible who are also attending the shows, and perhaps even shoot a few member Chevelles for future issues of CHEVELLE WORLD.

On another note, you can look forward to an even bigger, better issue next time. Yep, that's right. We're adding four more pages to accommodate members' letters, and expanded Chevelle Showcase, more editorial content, and an ACES Associate Chevelle Club listing.

I'm real excited about the ACES Associate Club program. Local and regional Chevelle clubs can become an ACES Associate Club now, AT NO CHARGE. When a club signs up for an ACES Associate status, it will receive a free listing in our Associate Club Directory (which should make it easier for ACES members to find a "local" Chevelle Club that they can join, too), and a story in CHEVELLE WORLD on any special events hosted by an ACES Associate Club (good exposure, and it may help other clubs when they stage their own events). The only hook is that the Associate Club has to provide photos from the event, and captions of what the photos are about. We'll try to handle the rest ...unless you have a budding journalist looking for another by line, and who would prefer to submit a completed manuscript. Again, if you need more information, call me for details.

Finally, congratulations are in order for Robert Kelley #225 of LaFontaine, Indiana, whose Cranberry red '72 SS 454 will grace the cover of The Paddock's 1996 Catalog. Way to go, Robert!!!

Wow! I can't believe I'm already out of space here. Whew! I'm sure glad I am, though. With nice weather comin' on, I better make sure the power top of the '66 still works...

Chuck
