each category are presented with special recognition
plaques. Additionally, awards are also presented for
People's Choice, the President's Pick, Long Distance, and

A Rat Tale
The entire week before Chevell-abration, Robert
Killingsworth kept telling his friends he was going to the
event so he could pick up "his" HO454. "Yeah, right!" his
buds responded. They were singing a different tune,
however, as the GM Performance Parts big-block was loaded
into the bed of a friend's pickup after the awards ceremony.
A stunned Killingsworth was nearly speechless as his friends
did the grunt work while he looked on. "What're ya gonna do
with it?" he was asked by numerous disappointed onlookers.
"I dunno," was his response, "but I may have just found a
reason to go out and buy another Chevelle!"
Robert's winning ticket was drawn from the box by Lindsey
Bethke, who, at such a tender age, couldn't possibly be
accused of making a biased pick. We thank Lindsey and her
proud parents, Jerry and Mary Bethke for helping us find a
new home for the HO454.
The HO454 features four-bolt mains, a steel crank, forged
pistons, big-port heads, an aluminum intake and a roller
cam. All that adds up to 425 horses...more than enough to
impress your friends at the local Biffy Burger! Good luck
finding that new Chevelle, Robert!
TIRE CHANGING
One of the most popular face-to-face competitions was the
tire changing contest. But this year we put a new spin on
the old rubber swap... Aside from having classes for men.
women, and kids, we added a five-man Tag Team competition
for any ACES Associate club that wanted to put its best lug
nut looseners on the line.
Wheel Vintiques donated the SS wheels for the competition,
and they mounted a set of reproduction Firestone Wide Ovals
from Coker Tire, and. Additionally, the Winner in the Men's
division took home a set of redline radials from Coker,
while the women's Winner got a gift certificate for a set of
Rally wheel from Wheel Vintiques.
It was a lot of fun for everybody that took part, even the
spectators who watched and yelled for their favorite person
or team. Here's how the tire snatchers stacked up:

.....AT THE SPEED OF SNAILS!
When was the last time your heard someone brag about
"setting slow E.T.?" Well, that's exactly what each of the
Winners in our Slo-o-o-w Drags competition can do!
In the Women's division, Tommi Roberson crept the 50-foot
distance in one minute, ten seconds. But the Winner in the
Men's division was Bob Schmidt who traversed an identical
distance in an incredible three minutes, twenty-nine
seconds!!! Keep in mind that the wheels had to keep
turning, and even the slightest flicker of a brake lamp was
reason for disqualification. Easy? Uhhh, not nearly as
easy as you'd think!
They had big prizes to shoot for, though. Not only would
they each take home a trophy, but both their Chevelles got a
new shoes, thanks to the generosity of Mickey Thompson
tires. Two sets of DOT-legal sticky street slicks were
awarded to the pair of slow pokes.
Winners of the Slow Drags:
Tommi Roberson, Womens Winner;
Bob Schmidt, Men's Winner; Dan Yuran, Men's R/U; Cemele
Almand, Women's R/U.

MINI-MUSCLE ON TRACK!
Not everyone can afford to race the real thing, so we came
up with an event that would allow car-to-car competition on
a somewhat smaller scale...and for a whole lot less money.
The competition took place on a 20-foot-long gravity track,
with door handle-to-door handle racing between favorite body
styles in 1/18th scale die cast. Fun? You bet!!!
Affordable? Even kids could get in on the action!
Exciting? You could watch scaled-down Chevelles take on all
comers...and beat 'em! The trick to winning seemed to be
the right lube on the axles, narrow tires, and the heaviest
body possible. With a max weight of 2 lbs, 4 oz, several of
the competitors were seen loading the interiors with
anything from rocks to wrenches.
Who says real race cars run on gasoline?!?
Winners:
Men's Division
David Reckow Winner
Josh Clemmons R/U
Women's Division
Janice Burk Winner
Tonya Reckow R/U
Under 12 Division
Darin Bethke Winner
Joshua Illig R/U
PULLING FOR POSTERITY
Every once in a while we find ourselves at the end of our
rope...literally. And for tug-o-war teams from the Queen
City Chevelle Club, the Peach State Chevelles, the Maryland
Chevelle Club, and the Mid-South Chevelle Club, the end of
that rope had best be left in the hands of a good anchor
man!
Obviously, this is an event where girth takes precedence
over guts, and when you've got the combination of both,
well, you're sure to come out on top! And that's what
brought the Maryland Chevelle Club to the Winner's circle as
the Tug-O-War Champions at this year's Chevell-abration.
Just remember guys, the other teams have all year long to
bulk up, and they'll be comin' after ya!!!
Maryland Chevelle Club Winners
Mid-South Chevelle Club R/U
Here's the winning form that the Maryland Chevelle Club used
to defeat all comers. They've got plenty of Girth and Guts,
huh?
The Peach State boys didn't do too well. Probably 'cause
they were laying down on the job!?!
The Queen City bunch just barely got beat...by a nose.
Actually, it was more like five of 'em!
