Comments: We recently inherited a 1975 Chevelle Malibu Classic. The car only has 44k original miles and runs great. Sports a 350 with a 3-speed automatic. Interior is in great shape. Garage kept. Light blue exterior with white vinyl roof. Problem is, we don't have the time to appreciate this classic. Make offer!

Comments: My '80 is a 2 door Malibu. I bought the car with a pretty much trashed 455 Olds and royally screwed up TH400. This is my first project car, and I'm having trouble finding stuff for it. I need a new wiring harness for pretty much the whole car. I'm taking out the 455 & TH400 and I have a 350 2-bolt truck block that I'm probably going to have machined for 4-bolt (normal or splayed), probably 10:1-10.5:1 compression, aluminum intake, headers, hopefully aluminum heads (if I can afford 'em), and I'm thinking about getting Summit Stage II rods. Does anybody know what mods have to be made to put in an overdrive automatic transmission? I'm thinking about getting a 700-R4, 4L80-E or 4T80-E. I also need interior parts, repair panels (those I could probably get at a junk yard, but if anyone could help w/ a resto company, I'd appreciate it). I'm going to get rid of the 455 and TH400. I'm also planning on putting in a 12-bolt with (probably) somewhere between 3.73 and 4.10 gears and taking out the 10-bolt. Any help with this stuff would be GREATLY appreciated.- Thursday, October 07, 1999 at 07:44:26 (PDT)

I've located another 350 4-bolt and I've added some major punch. now for the body. I need suggestions what other cars I can use, and what would look good (that will fit). A lot of people say a laguna s3 would do the trick. I'm looking to change the very front and rear end. Comments: I have a 1976 ElCamino SS black on black w/cloth bench. I have started fixing some little things and have completed a new front end to include ball joints, tie rods, idler, springs, a frame busings etc. It really helped the stance and drivability of the car. I went ahead and did brakes to include new rotors, bearings, calipers, etc. The body only has 77K on it so it is in good shape and the paint still shines nicely. I am dropping in a new 350+.030 this month to include a Comp Cams XE256H and new flat top pistons. The tranny already has a B&M shift kit. I am swapping the exhaust to hedman shorties and 3 chamber flowmasters. I went with the shorty headers so I could run both pipes down the passenger side to avoid the crossmember problem (which it is currently configured that way anyway). I tossed in some new tires (BF Goodrich 235/60 15 on 8 inch rims for the front and 255/60 15 on 10 rims for the rear) for good measure. Keep the big cars alive boys, someday they will turn around (I suppose when people realize there are none around anymore). Due to this fact I was able to purchase mine for $1500, and have enjoyed it since. Email me I will send you a pic (before the front end or motor work).- Thursday, August 05, 1999 at 06:47:51 (PDT)

Comments: I have a '73 SS Chevelle, original 4spd. 350, 4bbl car. I have the following items:
orginal power disk brakes, manual steering, and no a/c, swivel buckets, factory tach, 3.42 posi, full size spare. I replaced the quarters and tail panel and the car is 1979 Z28 blue (bright blue metallic) I have a fiberglass L-88 hood and the battery relocated in the trunk. The interior is the off white color. No side body stripes. I'm currently running certerlines all around with 50's in the rear and Pro-Trac street fronts on 31/2" rims. Competition engineering shocks all around set at 80/20 front and 50/50 rear. The fuel tank has the sump welded in for he fuel lines but there not connected yet. Both bumpers have been rechromed. I've taken two fourth place trophies with the car mostly because of the paint and interior. I wouldnt open the hood at the shows because the motor is a little dirty from the body work stage. It took me seven years to track down a no a/c dashboard in dark brown from another car. I'm going to check all my literature because I think I have build codes and paint numbers and other items that may help other people with what I went through. I started the project in 1985 and finished it in 1989. The car has always been covered and never been washed since I painted it in 1989. Also I took out the chassis and had it dipped in galvanized steel as well as the upper and lower control arms. The entire suspension is polyurethane except for the body bushings.- Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at 18:53:46 (PDT)

back to original condition. Is this vehicle worth spending the bucks on. I can find no production numbers on this specific model. It is a 7 on a scale of 1-10. Biggest problem is the factory motor no longer in vehicle and SP badge missing from grille, otherwise all parts intact. Vehicle is firemist metallic with the white SP stripes, white vinyl interior, A/C, cruise, 8-track, which I still have. Big question, is it worth the effort to make it 100% factory again ( it also has a sunroof and I lost the steering wheel) or is it worth almost as much with the changes that have been made in the last 22 years. Help. It looks and drives great (no rust, 2nd paint) but should I go all the way? Thanks for any ideas.- Sunday, April 25, 1999 at 13:03:41 (PDT)

I removed the stock 200ci V-6(replaced w/355ci). The interior was also removed for business. 10 point cage w/five-way simpson harness and butler buckets for comfort yet function. Now for the suspension, the stock was trashed from years of wear. It was removed for a ladder narrowed rear-end. The front is still stock, except fro a 2inch nose drop. I hope to have it finished soon. I'll send a pic later. I believe that the later malibu 78-83 are the thing to build. Comments: I recently purchased this vehicle from the original owner. I had been lamenting over another truck or utility vehicle purchase since I sold my 1970 El Camino and attempted to replace it's functionality with a (then)new '94 Grand Voyager. Needless to say, the wife enjoys the van to run the kids around and I needed to get back to a point that did not neccessitate borrowing "Dad's '70 3/4 ton Chevy".
After nearly 2 1/2 years I was fortunate to finally find a truck that had been taken resonably well care of and was within my budget (approx. $3,000 - $3,500.)
This El Camino is equiped with a 4.3 Liter, fuel injected V6 and a 3 speed automatic. I have begun to familiarize myself with the vehicle by changing all belts, hoses, filters, beyond the normal maintenance of (first)oil cahange, transmission service and checking brakes for wear & adjusting the parking brake.
I have also replace the "ill fit" replacement radio and speakers with upgrades that fit in the original "factory" openings. I have also purchased a dash mat to protect the aging vinyl from further damage.
My plans also include repairimg/ replacing the "horn spring assemlby" as the current is not working. The horn pad is down tight on the steering wheel. The former owner had mentioned that he had trouble with a short in the horn. To that end I noticed that he has spliced in some 16 guage multi strand (lamp) wire into what I believe is the horn jumper section of the harness located in the wiring cavity above the left front fender in back of the battery. I have traced this to a simple single throw switch under the dash. I will consult the "Hayes" manual to determine wire color coding and attempt to right this makeshift repair.
I am also going to have to replace the Air conditioning compressor as the "reed" valve is gone (per a mechanic). This I will undertake later in the spring.
I am looking for advice on where I may locate (for purchase) the rear "optional" speaker enclosures. As mentioned earlier I installed a new radio, and believe that the addition of the rear speakers would greatly enhance the quality of the sound.

Anyone out there have an original '73 with a spacesaver? Also, anyone know where the heater valve (water) is on a NON AIR 454 in '73? All the AIR cars I've seen (including my parts car) had a metal "pedistal" pipe where the valve sat atop of. My original 454 intake only has a hose nipple. I assume the valve is in-line somewhere on the heater hose - but where, and what does it look like? Manually operated? Vaccuum operated?- Monday, March 08, 1999 at 11:48:59 (PST)

I am trying to locate a crossmember for it, but not the factory style unit with only one exaust cut-out. Exterior now being done in all black, no chrome or emblems except SS & 454 on grille. Much chrome on the motor. It should be all together and rolling in February. I want to drop and rake it, and would like to hear from other 73-77's who have gone through it, and can offer advice on tires sizes, etc. I'd like to put 17" wheels on it with 40 or 50 series tires.- Monday, January 25, 1999 at 19:36:28 (PST)

Comments: I'm the proud owner of a 4-door 1974 Chevelle Malibu Classic with 51K miles on it (some grandma had it before I got it last summer) I love it, and I never want another car. I just have a few questions, and hopefully someone can answer them since I'm just a college gal with no knowledge of cars (though I wish I did have some).
1) I don't have the owners manual, and I haven't been able to find anywhere how many gallons the gas tank holds.
2) It's in excellent condition...it runs beautifully and only has some rusting along the door frames. Though I'm not willing to sell, I was interested in knowing its approximate value.
3) The original paint is still on, and besides the afore-mentioned rust, looks as good as new...shines beautifully. The only problem is that it is a horrible pale green color, and I was contemplating painting it. However, would painting it lessen the value?
4) the AM radio...and it's lack of speakers. The radio doesn't work, and I can't find any speakers...there are some small holes in the center/top of the dashboard...is that a speaker? Also, is it possible to install speakers/radio in the car or is the expense too high that it is not worth it?
5) My roommate insists that her four-cylinder Eclipse can go faster than my car...a test I'm not quite willing to prove since I already have a speeding ticket pending :) If you have a similar car, please help me prove her wrong by telling me how far you've gotten it up to. And what does a 350 engine mean? (told you I don't have car knowledge)
I really appreciate any help in answering my questions! If you want to see a picture of it, here's the URL
