It is currently being stored but hasn't been driven for about

I gather up cash to do it. If anyone has any suggestions as to places to get parts, please let me know. Thanks

Is there such a tranny? or did i get burned?, I paid $150 for it & it seem to be in really good shape with only 98 000 km on it. (so he says). I'm putting it in my '78 El-Camino because they never came with a 5-speed & cause the car is totally apart now, so why not.

I frequent this page quite often and like it alot, but haven't heard alot about t-5's. What am i getting into?

Thanks in advance car nuts.

Comments: I currently own a 1973 "Plain-Jane" El Camino, it's interior is perfect, but the exterior needs a little work. I was wondering if there was a place that makes ground effect kits for El Caminos. I am wanting to know if any one knows of a place that makes the fiberglass clam-shells for a '73 El C. And does any one know if a 1976 Laguna S-3 nose will fit onto a '73 El Camino? I have a perfect nos on mine, but I like the 76 S-3 nose, I would trade for/purchase a S-3 nose, new or used for the right price, can any one tell me where I might go about doing that? If any one knows the answer to even one of my questions, please email me..... I as well have had problems finding parts for a 73, all the books seem to skip over 73, and if they do have a pat for a 73, it only fits the Chevelle, I would also like to know of a place that I could get a catalog of parts for 73-77. Thank you for your time.

The company is called US BODY WORKS and they make fiberglass body parts for all sorts of old cars and trucks. They have a whole fiberglass 73 chevelle body, along with fiberglass cowl induction hoods, tilt font ends, doors and trunk lids! So you all know how heavy these late model chevelles are, imagine if you could have a whole car made from fiberglass, how light that would be!!
there phone number is 1 352 468 2203, so order a catologue and i dont think youll be disapointed.

Comments: SUBJECT: Stainless Steel Window Trim
In response to Lyle Simons' questions about the mystery window trim, I've only come across this type of trim on three different '73 Cutlasses. The first one I saw was an apparently one owner 442 at a local car show, but the owner wasn't around for me to ask about the trim. Since then I've come across two Cutlass Ss in local salvage yards with the same type of trim, one set of which I removed and bought (sorry, it's not for sale!). One Cutlass still had a readable production tag on the driver's door, showing that it was built early in the model run (I believe it was in October). I GUESSED that the trim may have been used only early in the '73 model year, and possibly on Cutlasses only, since I'd seen it on no other GM A-bodies. From Mr. Simons' information, it looks like it also was used on some Chevelles. I've checked some parts suppliers and factory literature and so far haven't found any official reference to this type of trim.

Location: Fort Worth, Texas,
Comments: I have a '77 ELky and have had problems finding any parts or
information. But I did find some help. If you call the GM Customer Service, you can request the Original Specifications for the car. You need to supply them with the model, year and VIN number from the car. They will send you the specs that includes everything from paint options & colors, interior
options down to gear ratios and part numbers. (About 1/4" thick of two sided pages.) Also included is a book of nationwide car clubs and parts services, and of course some new car sales stuff.

It's well worth the call and it's totally FREE. Their number is
1-800-222-1020. Good Luck, I had to make the call twice. The first time they sent me info on the 1978 and up body style. When I got the correct packet, I was pleasantly surprise of all the info supplied. But still I suggest that you emphasize the year
model to them.

Also you can find some good catalog connections in "Super Chevy" magazine and you may find some parts through J.C.Whitney. (www.jcwhitneyusa.com)

It originally came with a vinyl top, but has since been taken off in the interest of eliminating rust. The wheels are 12-spoke aluminum mags that were available that year, painted black to match the paint, 15x8.5 inches. I have 275/60/15's rear and 255/60/15's front. I saw it at a used car dealer's lot in primer, and fell in love with it. It has since been painted black and it looks a lot like a stock car. I'm very proud of it.

Comments: It is nice to hear there is a place I can come when I need help or encouragement. I recently, last week, purchased a 1973 El Camino SS to restore/build. From the looks of it, it is an original 350/4-speed car/truck. I bought it from the president of the car club I belong to, Street Machines of Rochester, who has an original 73 Chevelle SS 454/4-speed. He has given up on the Elky in lieu of building a blown 57 Chevy. I have the car/truck which is free of rot except for the pinholes in the bed and a large hole in the "trunk compartment" just ahead of the driver's side rear tire. The deal included the original 4-speed, a set of spare fenders, a set of spare doors, 2 spare tailgates, a set of swivel buckets, and a spare drivers side quarter panel. I do not have a motor and I am currently deliberating on what to put in it. The car, per the cowl tag, originally had a bench seat but I would prefer the buckets anyway. I also have a 93 Z28 6-speed, but bought the Elky so that I could escape NY's strict new emissions laws. I would appreciate any comments or ideas anyone has to offer.

Comments: I have my grandfather's 73 Chevelle Malibu. Got a 350, 2 barrel carb, no options(base of the base model), color is dark metallic blue and automatic trans. I got it as my first car in HS and have had it the past 6 years. It has recently been retired in favor of my Altima. I had to do it. I couldn't handle the 13 mpg I was getting, the many problems that I couldn't keep up with, nor could my wallet and it was falling apart. I am saving it. It is now parked "permanently" in the backyard and soon to go into one of our garages. I am looking to get it at the leasted fixed up. I am not looking at TOTAL restoration, but would want as many original parts as possible. If any one can help point me in the right direction to people you know that share the some love for this car, please pass my name and email along. Email: <th8255@email.msn.com>
Location: Fort Worth, Texas,
Comments: After forteen years of marriage, my beloved wife moved out for greener pastures (or something like that). I did the only thing I could, started on the "Hot Rod" project that I have always day dreamed about. Before we married, I had a loaded Blue/Silver 1977 El Camino. I loved that car. Unluckly, she didn't love my 250 watt radio or my loud dual exhaust and not to mention awsome V8 power. Reluctantly, I traded it off for a new Cherokee.

Recently, I found and bought another 1977 El Camino. This one is two tone brown, only 93,000 original miles, the motor and trany has never been out of the car (or so I was told and from the looks of it, I believe it). There is a little rust showing from under the side chrome but not much and no body damage.

My plans for the car is to build a new power plant, new Corvette L88 style hood, custom paint scheme, restore/repaint everything else that needs it,revamp & change the color of the interior (from tan to blue), wide wheels and tires, lower front end and so on.
It seams that 1973-1977 (Even though 20 years old is considered to be a "Classic") is too old to find "new" parts and too new to be found in any Specialty Catalogs (most catalogs that I've found end at 1972). I've had some luck with the J.C.Whitney Catalog. The main area that I need to find quality "Fresh" parts for is the interior (ex. Dash Pad, Guages and Instruments, Head Liner, ect...).

Also I seek information on O.E. options that G.M. had for the vehicle, such as, "Did G.M. ever put standard transmissions in 1973-77 El Cominos/Chevelles?" or "Did they ever offer a floor shifter?"

Thank for any help.

Comments: I have owned my 1973 Chevelle SS350 since June of 1979. I fixed the car up because no one had one and there still aren't many, and I like to be different. I have spent over $40,000.00 on it since I have had it. I did a frame off restoration in 1985. It has only seen rain twice since. I got caught in it going to car shows. The car is black and is slick as glass. Black interior with silver cloth inserts and pleated like factory seats. I have had 6 rear ends in the car. It now has a Curry Enterprise Ford 9 inch, 4:86 richmond gears, hotchkis control arms, strange case and pinion support, 35 spline strange axles and a modified detroit locker. My transmission which I have had 5 in the car and rebuilt the present turbo400 once and it has all high performance internal parts and a 10 inch 4000 stall convertor. I have had several engine configurations. In fact I have number 8 coming as I am writing this letter. The last small block had 501 HP on the dyno. The down fall was I had to run the car on racing gas which is very expensive. It had 11 to 1 compression, 600 lift roller with .266 duration at .050 lift, steel crank, crower rods, hypertec pistons, bow-tie angle plug heads with a stage 2 port job, bench flown to a .700 lift cam, manley severe duty valves, k motion springs, a weiand team g intake, 4150 pro series 950 cfm Holley carb., msd ingnition, balanced and blue printed. I exploded it street racing and I am going to install a 532 HP 502 cubic inch rat motor from Sallee Chevrolet in Oregon. It should be here next Tuesday or Wednesday. On nice thing about it is that I can run pump gas again and still have over 500 HP on the street. It will be a Mustang Killer fron Hell.

Thanks for Listening

It's the window trim for the collanade style quarter window (large triangular shaped). What is unique about this trim is that it is all stainless steel! Every other car I've ever seen has had plastic trim with stainless ends. The one I have (passenger side) is obviously OEM (does not look home-made in other words). Anyone ever seen an all-stainless version of this trim???? I'd love to get the drivers side! Possibly from some other A body maybe? I seriously doubt it is aftermarket since it is formed so perfectly.

Well now I have taken out the nitrous injected small block 406 and replaced it with a 6-71 blown 383 that has a small nitrous kit. (just in case) I am planning to get into the nines but still street it. What is the use in having a good looking/running car if your not going to drive it!!! The only thing I'm bummed about is the fact I have to cut a hole in the hood for the blower. Oh Well .... apply some heavy mods to it! I am about to to a frame off restoration, ( Why? ... Why not). What I need to know is there
anybody out there who has put a 1988 T5 top loading tranny in
an El Camino? Can it be done? Where do I get a clutch/brake pedal assembly from? Someone said an Iraqui Taxi, apparently Chev made a limited number of these Malibu's for export to Iraq to serve as taxi duty in a manual tranny form. Will this assembly work? If not what will? I hope some big-time Chev fan can help.

P>S> if the above E-Mail doesnt work please try ...

Comments: I'm looking into buying a '77 Chevy Malibu wagon. It's a v8 that a friend of mine has been fixing up a bit. I'm just not real familiar with Chevrolets, so I was hoping that I could get some info from someone here. Are these pretty reliable cars? Is this a car that would hold up through a road trip or just a town car? What should the approximate gas mileage be in town and on the hwy? Do you think this is probably a car that will last me the next few years while I finish up school, or should I keep looking? Are there any common problems with this car that I should know to look out for when I go look the car over?

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

a second car. We are the second owners of it. We purchased
it from an older woman, who kept it in her garage for 8 years and did not run

it. We have had it for 4 years. The
car is inspected and runs well. I had know Idea that there
were so many Chevelle lovers. This Laguna has been a talk
piece since we have purchased it. If anyone would comment
on this vehicle, it would be appreciated. I would like
to know more history on this vehicle. Like I said we bought
it for a second car, because of the low mileage, and the
condition it was in. Not because it was a Chevelle. I have
however enjoyed the comments, and have become fond of it.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I just had to have it for my ElCamino. The grills were missing as were the headlight bezels. I had no idea how hard it would be to find these parts. It took me four years to find the grills (off a junker at a shopping mall-yes I bought them). It took another four years to find the bezels ( I had to pay more for the bezels than I did for the nose-clip and grills combined!). It is now almost finished. Still looking for a new piece fo chrome for the top of the tailgate. My El Guna is midnight metallic with bright white racing stripes! It has 15"Crager SS rims (6" in front &
10" on rear). It has a mild built 350 with 625 Carter carb. Just for
an added touch I cut a hole in the hood and added a Trans Am
shaker scoop. I also welded the tailgate shut and shaved the handle.
Hope I didn't bore you all too much, but I sure love that El Guna.

Hope to see yall cruisin the streets. E-MAIL if you have any info
on the tailgate chrome. Or if you would like to tell me about your ride.

Run the car mostly on the track (does 12.8 @ 108.0 MPH), but it's better on the street!! The exhaust system features 1 5/8 hedman headers, Knockoffs(for track) and exiting through 3 inch Flowmasters out in front of the rear tires. This seems to work well.
In my opinion, this generation of Malibus is way better than the older and bigger '70's version. Two tid bits of help for anyone else that's got one and hot rodding it like I did:
1/ Putting a big block chev in it eh! Try a set of headers made for a 1970 BB Chevelle Malibu(fits the same).
2/ Looking for doors for your 2dr, try one off a Pontiac LeMans(same years).
Well, that's all for now folks!!!

Comments: 1981 Elcamino, originally a "K" (229 V6) car, now has an L-82 Vette motor, TH350. She needs a lot of work as the former owner
was a little jazzed up one night and went through a barbed wire
fence (said he woke up the next a.m. with a Texas State trooper
looking in his window, and a Hereford cow looking in the other).

I have E-mailed a few of the fine folks on this list already, so
bear with me if this sounds redundant.

As owners of the "forgotten years" we owe it to ourselves to voice our needs to the major dealers of resto parts. If we remain
silent then we will get nothing. As businesses they will have to
respond to demand. It took just that to get Danchuk and The Paddock to start carrying the 64-72 parts that everybody now takes for granted. Most of the 64-72 owners don't remember the days when all you could find were 55-57 stuff!

It looks like Paddock is trying to get some things for 73-87 but it is gonna take a while. They have some carpet kits and a few other things available. Cheap, restorable 64-72's are getting scarce, and the 73-87's are next in line.

Let's let our voices be heard, friends. We deserve just as much.

Any suggestions as to what would be a good donor car? Is my 200 metric transmission the same dimensions as the 86, which had a 200R4? Thanks for any help.

Comments: I am the orginal owner of this 1979 Royal Knight, with bucket seats, 305 ci, metric trans, and no power windows or doors. It was "cherry" until about 1981 when a "KID", in someone elses car ran a RED LIGHT and "nailed" me!! I had it fixed and then after three kids, a "friend", and some accidents, I did not see the El Camino for about 4+ years--you know how "KIDS" can be!! I am currently, my decison, trying to put it back together in a very "SPECIAL" way. I want it to be a simi "one of a kind" in my area!! Lately, the El Camino has started showing up in my area, because people have found out JUST "HOW" good they are. I am looking for any place that I can find replacement parts and "custom stuff" to finish it off. I have already completed everything on the lower end. Replaced the 305 ci with a modified 305 ci, replaced the trans with an 1980 corvette turbo 350 w/shift kit, put a 323 posi (71/2 in rear), and some other things. I am now ready to do the body and then the inside. With the help of some "outstanding friends" who are in the right business, "it should be almost one of a kind!!" If you know of any place to find parts and "stuff" to help me out, "PLEASE" let me know!! The only place that I have found is OPG in Cal. I have found some excellent help in Hemmings Motor News (HMN), but not enough. If anyone can, "send help!!"

"Thanks!!"

Comments: me and my Mlibu's are hard to seperate, This is my second `81, My more recent `bu has a 305, and a lock up th350. The problem that I need help solving with it is that I have a massive vaccum leak. My brake booster and master cylinder have a gap of atleast 1/4" between them. If I tighen the bolts and get rid of the gap, the brakes either drag or lock, without pressing the pedal. I have talked to the previous owner and he said it was like that when he bought it and he just ran it with the gap. There is no adjustable unit on the pedal assembly, So I don't know if I have to change the booster or the master cylinder or both. So if anyone has knowledge on how to fix this or has some ideas I am open to suggestions, I want it to run better in the spring, especially with the soon to be added bc/cc paint job.

two-tone factory paint. It currently has the yawnfest 267 V8,
I've managed to squeeze some more gerbils out of it with a K&N
air filter, Flowmaster, and Accel coil. I have swapped out the
factory grandma instrumentation for the full guage package, sans
tachometer.(the factory wiring needs to be swapped around, as
well as needing different oil and water sending units.) I've ordered PST's polygraphite front end kit, should tighten up the
car immensely. I've put 235/60R15 tires on it, and plan on getting new rear control arms and sway bar. I have dreams of a
GM 350 crate motor that's emissions legal in Virginia (the east
coast's California), and a 8.5" GN rearend bolted up to a 700R4.
I've put new bumpers on it, and hope I can paint it a nice dark
cherry metallic. Enough on my car, I stand with the rest of you
late model Malibu owners in wishing the Chevelle clubs would
recognize the rest of us. These downsized cars can be sharp with
some mild cosmetic work, and their light weight makes for some
serious performance potential. TROUBLE FINDING PARTS? Thank the

The original owner put an aftermarket vinyl top on and it has rusted underneith. Anyone know what is involved in grafting a new top onto these cars? This is an incredibly rare combo (454/4sp), so I'm very tempted to restore it. Anyone know what the production numbers are for 454 SS's in '73? I bet there's less than a few hundred 4sp cars left in existence.

I am having one problem that I cannot get rid of. When the trunk is closed, and I go over rough roads, it makes noise like metal on metal. I have tried everything from tightening down the hinges to stuffing cardboard under the deck lid webbing, and I cannot find the source of this noise. I had this same problem with an old rusted malubu, bud didn't care. Since I drive this one every day, I would like to find the source of this noise. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance

Comments: Can someone answer a question for me? Why is that our year chevelles are almost impossible to find parts for? Why do people not like these years of our beloved cars? What we are looking at our the "bastard years," as I call them. They are defined as the Chevelles that have never really been given any credit. The only models that have been recognized in the least bit are the Lagunas. Notice all Chevelle catalogs and magazines focus on the notorious years 64-72 and 78-etc. No offense to ACES but their membership applies to the "notorious" years. But to all of us who dare to be differnet, we will always stand out in the Chevelle crowd. I personally own a 74 Malibu Classic and always thought that I was alone. It seems that most of our "bastard year," are seen on our streets normally beat up rusted junkers. I see them as a project that needs some lovin. To all of you who are having difficulty finding parts, I wish you the best of luck it always takes me a while to find the essential parts for my car. Feel free to comment or if have any interesting news on our years. I am currently constructing a web page for our years. Good luck with your Cheveles.

The owner was a little old lady who ordered it with a 6 cyl. engine, AM radio, and black wall tires. The car is still wearing 3 of the original tires and the spare has never been out of the trunk. My family and I have fun going to low key car shows with it. All I really need to improve it's looks is a new or decent replacement grille to match. Any advice on parts availibility are welcome.

It has a SB 406 with a 2-stage NOS kit, turbo 350 (built of course) and the stock rear suspension except for axles and a spool. It's real fun to see the look on peoples faces as it leaves wheels up ( 1.40 60 ft ). It still has a full interior ( w/cage ), powersteering and power brakes. I used to drive it everyday to work till someone clipped the front-end trying to be cute. Now it comes out only for the local street races. It looks good too, white w/blue pearl, limo tinted windows, 165/85/15 in the front and 29.5 x 11.5 in the rear (non-tubbed). If your ever in Las Vegas go to the streetraces and ask about the Big White Malibu...You'll find me!
