The wiper ball joint linkage brass bushing is larger than any 'Help!' type brass and when I use the 'Help!' brass it comes out in a couple weeks. I need a place to purchase the correct brass bushings. Please help.

Comments: I am looking for a muscle car, a chevelle or camaro, and talked to my friend and he told me that he has a 1972 Chevelle SS that is in pretty bad shape, it had a 350ci in it and a 4 speed. It has no engine, tranny or rear end right now, as well as front bumper or grille. I was wondering if any of you guys think this car has potential or is one you just forget about, and how much do you think it would cost me to get it on the road again from it's current state? thanks

Comments: I have just purchased a 1972 malibu. It was a one owner, 75410 actual miles. It has a 350 turbo-fire v8. 65 orange flame, with a covert vinyl roof. It is a sport coupe. white vinyl interior. The window sticker says that it has a code # m40 turbo hydra-matic transmission. I think the m40 is the 400, but that doesn't seem to match up with the combonations given on this web site. I didn't see any 350 - 165hp with the 400 transmission. Could anyone tell me if this is possible.

Its difficult to describe, but when you push down on it, it clearly has some padding under it. My other project (1967 Dodge Dart 273) has a vinyl top too, but it is hard (no give when you push, just metal). Any ideas? Please email. Thanks a bunch-

Comments: I own a '72 chevelle, which when i got it, was a total mess. I redid the entire engine (350/350), transformed the bench seat into buckets with the shifter on the floor, rebuilt the whole front end, and right now im in the process of doing the body work and painting the car. Deep blue with white stripes. I also got a 3.5" cowl hood 2.5" mandrel bent duals with header cut offs, and big 30" goodyear's in back....and im only 19.

Comments: FOR SALE. I own a 72 chevelle/malibu. It is bright red with black interior. It has a bench seat with is not in the greatest condition. The rest of interior is in fair condition. The passenger fender has a scratch and a crease in it as someone backed into it in a parking lot. It has a built 350. Don't ask me what is in it because it was built when I bought it. I do know it is fast and runs hard. I has a 400 turbo transmission that has been built a little. Again don't ask me what is in it cause I don't know either. Both the tranny pan and the oil pan leak a little bit. The car has sat for a year outside. It has a little bit of rust starting to bubble up around wheel wells on back but not much. It hasn't been started for a year either. I had bought the car drove it for 3 or 4 years and then started buying parts to fully restore it. I have one full original g.m quarter panel for one side and a half skin for the other, driver side fender,ss hood wich needs a little work. I also have 3 or 4 doors I was going to use the latching mechanisms to repair existing doors on the car as they are getting wore out. Also have dual exhaust with headers and turbo mufflers which I got off of another chevelle. I built a harley last year and it consumes much of my spare time and have just lost interest in the chevelle. I am asking $3000 for everything. If interested you can e-mail me at dragula@pionet.net

The odd thing of this car was the rear window defrogger, a fan in the back window sil. This is an X-drag car so my work is just beginning in the upgrades. I would like to hear from any one who might have some good ideas to match my own. Later

His uncle purchased the car new and had it special ordered from the factory. The car is entirely stock and has not been modified. We recently attended the Chevelle show in Nashville, and did not see any like it. There were only a handfull of 402's there and they were in the SS models. Is this car very rare? Does anyone know of others like it? Thanks.

Comments: greetings-my car is a malibu that i purchased for $50. I spent 21/2 years on the car and had a great time working on it.It was owned by a lady in town-she drove it 1 mile to work and back home. her father taught her how to take care of the car-oil 3 & 3 and tuneups, etc. Everyone wanted the car and she told me that i could have it when she retired. It had rough spots and it was painted dark factory gold-which had faded. I rebuilt the 4-bolt engine and began the task of redoing the car. The paint is hunter green w/a touch of silver to enhance the curves. Its my last project car-i teach high school auto shop-the shop will be redone for special ed classes and computers. after 32 years teaching auto.i guess everyone will be making tons of money working for starbucks as assisitant managers??you guys have a great web site!!!

Email: <byrong72@yahoo.com>
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas,
Comments: I have a 1972 Chevelle, 350 Malibu. The car is in great shape, but it needs paint and a new suspension. I rebuilt the weak factory 350 last year and had the original 300 horse iron heads reworked along with getting the block decked to raise the compression to about 10:1. I also stuffed in a huge cam from Bullet Racing Cams that makes power to about 7000 rpm, stuck an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake on top(I can't say enough good things about this intake), and topped it off with a rebuilt/modified Q-Jet and K&N filter. I don't really like the Q-Jet, but unlike other carbs it will get decent gas mileage. The exhaust goes thru a set of full length Dynomax headers and dual chamber Flowmasters. The best thing I have ever done to the car was to trash the TH350 in favor of a 700R-4 from a late model Z-28. I can scream thru 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, then idle down the interstate getting about 16mpg. The car is a daily driver, and I wouldn't trade it for any new car in the world!

P.S. Is there anyone else out there who loves to screw with people in Mustangs?

Comments: I have a 72' ss454. It has the painted bullit remote mirror. I have read in one restoration book that a non-remote bullit mirror was available, for the passenger side, as a dealer installed option in 71 and 72. Some have told me that is myth, others, that anyone who has one has fabricated it from another mirror. I have talked to some who have them on their car and say they came on the car, so it must have come from the factory. They are quite different than most as they have a flat base and sit on the door ledge instead of the side of the door. Anyone got one they would like to sell, if there is such a thing?

Thanks

But I bought everything new for console shifter the whole works, but my PROBLEM is Where do I mount the shifter and console? Is there marks or something that shows where I can mount the console on the floors pans? Remember this originally was on the colum not floor shifter. Any help would greatly be appreciated thanks.

The question I have, did the manufacturers of the muscle car era (Chevy in particular)enticpate the horsepower of the muscles cars by making the engines with 4 bolt mains or do most of them have 2 bolt mains? If some of the cars have 4 bolts mains, how do I check mine without pulling the engine out? When I checked my vin number, the book said mine is a 350 4-bbl, does the "4-bbl" mean 4 barel carb or 4-bolt main?

Now 20 years later I want to buy another '72 chevelle. But I want one with more power. Did the '72 SS 350 have more HP than the standard 350 of that year? Or were all 350's the same regardless of wherther the car had the ss package or not?

I don't want vortec heads because I want to reuse my RPM air gap intake and ceramic coated straight plug dynomax headers. Chevrolet says these heads are angle plug and require angle plug headers.

The car lacks a fasten seat belt light on the dash and related wiring which should be in for that year. Now that I have a classic tag and registration which says "OUT OF COUNTRY" in the notation, I suspect that it was sold in Canada or Mexico.
I know that the color combination is rare, but how many could possibly exist in the states that were sold out of this country? Is my Chevelle one of only a few?

It has a built 350 Chev Engine (375HP) 4 bolt main out of an 81 Pickup. I have a turbo 350 transmission with a shift kit backed by the B&M megashifter. I put a fuel Cell in in the back of the bed where the storage compartment is. I also put in some ladder bars to get rid of my wheel hop and to let that posi rear end tear up the streets. I got a set of some very rare limited Edition American racing rims that look just perfect on it. I dropped the front end 2 inches and put air shocks in the back to give it that very tough "Raked Look". I started completely over with the interior and redid interior and put in some bucket seats out of a Grand Am and did everything with Black Crushed Velvet. I finished her off with a very smooth looking blue called intense blue pearl metallic Also known as the (Viper Blue color) and put some White SS stripes on her. I have rebuilt the heads, put on a new D cap and rotor, changed the points, sparkplugs, and wiresn but it still backfires. I thought it might be the lifters or the carburator loosing vacume. Any suggestions?

The interior was perfect with the exception of ripped carpet. I paid only $150.00 for this car and have dropped in a fresh 355, freshly ported heads, roller cam, lifters, and rockers. Hedman headers and flomaster exhaust. I've got a 10-bolt posi with 373's ready to slap under it and then paint. Hopefully by spring I'll be out at the track.

Lot's of Eddlebrock goodies, Performer intake manifold, 4BBl carburator (gas hog) headers.. I bought it as a winter car since my other car is a '94 Firehawk and is pretty much useless in the snow... Can anyone give me any info. on these cars?
I am interested in finding out what kind of gear ratio it has and what type of stall converter.. The tranny has been rebuilt with a shift kit, but I imagine the stall converter is a factory

I hated this thing at first but it is growing on me, I would also like to find a front grille for it, the original has been painted black.

The car spins so much out of the hole with the street tires. I must come off at idle and slowly floor the pedal. I think the SSM bars will help. Anyone used these before? Is the ride harsh? I drive the car 4-5K street miles a year and race 3-4 weekends a year, but run the street quite often.

This trans cam from a 90's model caprice with a towing package. My engine is a 9.5 :1 355 with comp 280 cam, worked heads performer rpm intake. This winter I hope to do a 388 stroker kit to it. Comments: I have a 72 non SS Elcamino that I have rebuilt or restored the complete front end(including steering box),the 350 engine(not so much cam to need a high stall convertor),changed over to bucket seats, and upgraded to front disc brakes. Other upgrades such as a 700R4(using stock consol w/aftermarket shifter kit), A functional cowl induction hood(left out the electrical parts they just restrict airflow to engine),and added a big block radiator. Also restored air conditioner(gets killer hot in SC). It still needs painting and some more body work. So far I have spent many hours repaing the bed floor and rusted out floorpans. I only wish I could find a source for bed floor parts such as the removeable plate at the front of the bed or the plate screwed to the inside of the tailgate, not to mention the bed floor extension at the rear. This truck is driven daily and gets resonable MPG . The main reason it hasn't been painted yet is I can't let it sit still long enough. Local paint shops want to keep it 4-6 weeks and want 2500-4500 to complete the paint job. So for now it stays primer gray, besides it may be time I learned to paint. Hope I didn't bore you but thanks for this web site.

I have redone the complete interior with crushed black velvet and have customized the interior in other ways. I have installed a fuel Cell in the back of the bed. I just painted it Viper blue and have white SS racing stripes down the middle. I have a limited edition set of American Racing rims that are now on the car. This past Memorial Weekend I drove to South Dakota and picked up a 71 El Camino no motor no tranny body straight as an arrow all glass and chrome good. I plan to start on this one asap. My 12 bolt posi makes noise when turning and I had it completely disasemmbled and they inspected it and said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They replaced the springs and a few seals in it and it worked great for about 2 weeks then it started making noise again. It doesn't make any noise until you've drove it about 20 miles enough for it to warm up. I've talked to a few people and they say that being an older posi, noise is normal and about the only way to correct it is with this special oil. I don't especially like everybody staring at my car, wondering what the noise is. And I don't want to waste my time finding and buying this expensive oil if it isn't gonna work. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

It is an automatic on the column with a bench seat. My intentions are to make a 72 SS clone out of it, and I was wondering on the feasability of going from column to console and buckets, Swap in a 350, etc. Do new mounting brackets and holes need to be welded and cut to accomodate the buckets, console and seat belts... has anyone done this switch? Are there physical differences in the body style of the plain, custom, and SS option customs made in 72? Is the price of the car and part car worth it? Any input would be appreciated!

Other mods in mind are larger wheels (17" and up). A more modern EFI small block with a custom twin turo setup. I think turbocharging is the ultimate for street performance. You can make serious HP (600+ hp is easy... even on pump gas). Its going to cost an arm and a leg, but hey... what else are chevelles good for?

I was just wondering if anyone has done it and how much of a pain it was. I know it's expensive and there are a lot of parts, I can get them through Year One. Any help would be appreciated

I've change my engine and put a Wiend intake, 180 cam, Camelhump Heads, and an Edelbrock Carbuerater. I've chanded my centerlines to weld wheels. It's got black interior that is in decent shape but I'm getting ready to order new door panals and get my seats recovored soon.

Comments: Both cars at present time are small block cars (350) One is highly modified and one (67) just a cruiser. The 72 sports leather, Dupont chrome illusion rally stripes and blue pearl paint. It is just about completed. My future plans include a big block (even though the small block hasn't been broken in yet)the cars front has been changed from drum to disc (oem swap from a 70,BB,SS car) It sports all the ss's parts: sway bar, steering box, springs, etc. Plans for the rear are still in the making, I had a 10 bolt open end in the car and had two 10 bolts from camaros (73-81) posi units. Our local machine shop said they would swap! After buying axles, bearings,Moser cover,etc... They don't swap! So now it looks like a 12 bolt 3.55 posi from my donor 70SS is going to be in place w/factory swaybar and traction bars. Thanks

Its Mojave gold with factory black stripes, black buckets, and automatic console. The oddest thing about it is the electric door locks. I was wondering if anybody knew how rare these PDL were? Out of all the Chevelles I've ever seen, even the well equipped SS 454 machines, I've never encountered them before. Also, does anybody know if '71-'72 SS wheels were all painted Argent Silver or could they be the same color as the car? Any info on these subjects would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Comments: I own a 1972 (true) SS Chevelle coupe. I am the original owner. The car has a 350 small block, Turbo 350 trans and 3:08 posi rear end. The car has 130,000 miles on it and although its never had a frame-up restoration, it has been maintained, repaired and restored as needed. Although not concours quality, it is in excellent condition for a street-driven vehicle. I am not a purist, in that I have no qualms about upgrading the car, as long as it keeps its "original" appearance. For example, the car is painted in a 1990 blue basecoat/clearcoat, which is close, but not an exact match to the original Mulsanne Blue. The engine has variously existed as a 2bbl and a 4bbl and was even turbocharged for a while. The tires are Goodyear Eagle ST's on the original SS wheels. You get the picture. Anyway, I'm considering putting in a ZZ4 small block crate-motor (355 HP). I'm even thinking about adding nitrous. I'd like to hear some suggestions and advice about such a project.
