Comments: 1972 with a 70 front end and rear bumper. Bought from a friend up the road that has owned it since 1980. He originally owned a 70 which ended up getting a rather large crack in the frame, so he purchased a 72 and put all the 70 body parts on it since he liked the look of a 70 so much. I love the fact that it isn't original because I can do as I wish with it and not deplete the value. I have installed a full suspension kit from GLOBAL WEST and 12.2" wilwood front discs. He also kept the 1970 307 which I have pulled out and am building a 69 350 for it that came out of a 69 impala. I also have torque thrust II wheels (16X8) with goodrich 245/50/16 radials on all fours. So far I've out-handled a 90 IROC-Z which has impressed me and made me quite happy with my suspension selection. If anyone wants the 307 let me know. I'm also looking for a rochester 4BBL carb(s) and a 700R4 trans.

Comments: My car is a 1970 chevelle contvertble malibu with 350/350 auto, 2 barrel carb. It was 6 months old when my mother purschase it. Its still mostly orginal, but has had new seat cover, carpet, top and dash put in about 10 years ago. Its blue on blue with white top, 14 inch rally wheels, and 10 bolt rear-end. It could use paint and a new top but it still a beautiful car. The only problems is that the battery won't stay charged. I've checked the alternator and it checks out okay. Any help would be apprecated.

Comments: 1970 Chev Malibu. Its my dream car. I bought it for $500 off a friend who's daddy bought her a new truck. Its got a 307 and purrs like a kitten. The body was rusted out so I bought aftermarket parts (rear quarter pannels) and had some back-yard weirdo do the work for $1,500. That included all the body, paint and paint job. Everything interior is in perfect condition, save for the back part of the rear bench (I need to find one). I had to re-wire most of the car and replaced the weather stripping. Next year I'll focus on the interior carpeting and the interior of the trunk. It'll be mint after that one. I'M IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And I never even used to be a car freek).

Future plans include a Targetmaser 350 with an Edelbrock carb. and intake that was on my 70 C-10 pickup, an HEI distributor and a Delco/Remy SI internaly regulated alternator. I do plan on a cam. swap but I'm not set on the profile yet. I'm thinking somewhere around .465 lift and 280 duration with matching springs. I plan on using it as a daily driver so there won't be anything radical like NOS or a blower. Sorry guys. The only exterior mods. will be Cragar or AR rims and a gauge kit for the interior.

Comments: hello fellow chevelle owners. I am currently restoring a 1970 ss chevelle, 402/350horse, M20, 12 bolt. Car was purchased in 92 in Los Angeles on one of my trips. Car was complete but in need of work. Shipped car home and then decided to look for a build sheet. Looked every where and finally found most of it on top of the fuel tank. Car is bucket seat, functional cowl, 402 4 speed, 3.31 12 bolt, hugger orange (monaco orange) delete strip option, gauge package. Car has been completely pulled down, the body is currently on a rotiserie and i am currently metal finishing the body. The motor is under way with the heads completely redone with a mild port job, standard size comp cams valves, double crane valve springs, heads flowed 520 horse. Bottom end is currently underway with speed pro 11.5 forged pistons at 60 , hydraulic crane cam 2,500-6,500, preped standard rods, main stud kit, steel crank. Motor should displace 414 cu roughly. The 12 bolt has been rebuilt it currently has 3.9 ratio in which was there when i purchased the car also installed summer bros c-clip eliminator kit as i have seen what happens to axles that snap and destroy rear guards, I have just the 4 speed to rebuild. The chassis has been powder coated and new front suspension installed. Car when finished will look original even the outside of the motor and the outside of the car right down to the ss wheels, the only thing that will give it away is the noise from the motor, but i can live that as it should sound better than stock.
I am in search of a rochester carb to suit rebuild p/n 7047000 and a dizzy p/n 11112000. I have everything else to complete the car bar a few little things. I have worked out that the car should run a high 11 second quater when soughted out so i will be having some fun at the strip and the road.If any one wants to e-mail feel free as am willing to keep in touch.

Location: Burlington,
Comments: I recently bought a 1970 chevelle with a real nice 402 engine. I think I got a deal for $2,500, but I'm not sure, what do you guys think? The engine has been bored 30 over, has high performance heads (2.19 intake, 1.88 exhaust), but they have been machined to match the bore. It has a Weiand high rise aluminum intake, and a carter 750 carb. The exhaust is handled by Hooker super comp headers. It has a 4.11 limited slip rearend, but the guy gave me a 4.11 posi to replace the limited slip. The interior is in real nice condition (tweed bench seats w/ no rips)and the floors have virtually no rust. There are malibu tags all over the interior, so It was probably a Malibu. The bad part is that the rest of the engine (pulleys, belts, fuel lines, electrical wiring, brakes, spark plug wiring, etc) is in shambles. Basically the only thing the engine is right now is a block, heads, and intake. I have to do all the rest, but most of the parts are there. The whole front clip is new, just not assembled or put in place. I need all the help I can get, because this is my 1st car (I'm only 15) and while I know the basics, there is a whole lot more I need to know, so if any of you have munuals, or any advice, like I said, I need all the help I can get. Basically, I just wanted to know if I got ripped off or not. Thanks a lot, and feel free to e-mail me with any advice.

Comments: Whats up Chevelle lovers? My name is Brian, im 20 and my car is a 70 Chevelle Malibu 2 dr. with a 350 (unoriginal engine)and is mostly stock. I bought it in June, 1998 in Florida and since have rebuilt the motor, and did some electrical and suspension work. i also replaced the stock 14" rims with 15x8 Cragar SS rims and B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As that really set the car off. The color is a light (seafoam?) green (unoriginal) with the original dark green interior. The exterior and interior colors obviously dont match and my plans to remedy this has been put on hold for a few years due to school and a new car purchase. Does anybody know what the original exterior color could be? I thought it might be dark green because of the interior, but the unrepainted area in the engine bay is a similar type of light green thats on the body, but slightly different. Im thinking about repainting it dark green with matching interior, or fathom blue with white/black interior and possibly adding a cowl hood as well as beefing up the motor a little bit with maybe a bigger cam, holley 650, hooker headers, and flowmasters. This could be an even sweeter car than it already is with some money (probably alot of money because with old cars its one more thing after another.) But its worth it because nothing beats the feeling of cruising around town in an old muscle car thats mean-looking, loud, fast, and does some really kick-ass burnouts! If you have any paint/body or mechanical suggestions or questions let me know. The Lions (Muscle Cars) will always be King of the Jungle; not the Hyenas (Imports). Take care, Brian

He said it was a 69 but also said it had wide black stripes on the hood and trunk. Could you get the sport coupe option on a Malibu and could you also get the 396/375 engine? Will it be hard to find this car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not trying to completly restore it but make it run good and look good.(I'll piddle with the minor details later) The original 307 recently went out with 87,000 original miles. It could be fixed but my uncle offered me a 350 that came out of his race car so I took it. Anyway, I have only seen one other Malibu 307 and was wandering if anyone knew any numbers on how many were made and still around. Also if anyone had any tips on the restoration. Thanks!

just waiting for the right one. For $800 dollors and a smile, the
70 SS was going home with me. She has a dark green body,
with faded white stripes on her cowl hood. You can tell she was a real looker at one time, and probably was feared by many fords
in her time. She is currently resting in my body shop, where I plan
to take her down to the frame. I have a new ZZ4 crate motor
ready for transplant, along with a Jet 400 transmission.
I plan on taking care of her for many years to come. This one
is not going to the crusher.

No CID badge under SS on fenders. No factory hood locks. Etc. I tried to determine by decoding the Cowl Tag. Guess what? No way to tell. Car is Red w/black stripes,Cowl hood, black vinyl top, black interior, bench seat, speedo and fuel indicator w/ idiot lights. Column shift. The car is 80% restored and I bought for 5K. Moral of the story is...

It has the L-65 350 2-bbl. 250 hp engen, TH-350 with hi stall converter in it, and a 10-bolt posi with a 2.56 gear ratio. A real highway screemer.I also found the oridginal build sheet under the back seat. All oridginal down to the 14*7 rally wheels. The engen had burnt valves so I ordered the Holley Systemax 2 engen kit. It now has alluminum heads, high rise intake, big cam!!! Crne roller rockers and a 600 Holley double pumper with headers and a dull exaust.

The body may look rough but it'll eat 5.0 mustangs for dinner

The original 6 cyl.and th350 have been replaced with a 454 and Th400 and a 12 bolt rear-end.
The car is beautiful and driven whenever weather permitting. The odometer just clicked over to 82,000 miles. The car was built to look like it could be original. The only thing giving it away is the 300deluxe badges and the fact the car has been lowered.

Comments: 3 MONTHS AGO I BOUGHT A FAIRLY RESTORED 396 SS. THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY FORREST GREEN IN & OUT, BUT HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO RED AND BLACK WITH BLACK INTERIOR. ALTHOUGH EVERYTHING POINTS TO IT BEING AUTHENTIC WITH A BUILD SHEET, SOMEONE WENT TO A LOT OF TROUBLE TO CONVERT IT WITH BUCKET SEATS, AFTERMARKET GAUGES IN THE IDIOT LIGHT CLUSTER, ALL BLACK INTERIOR,CONSOLE, AND A/C.

I WOULD LIKE TO TRACK DOWN ANY FORMER OWNERS-IT CAME FROM THE GREENVILLE S.C. AREA. ANYONE WITH ANY INFO OUT THERE ON A CAR OF THIS NATURE?

I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED THAT IT.,S NOT VERY ORIGINAL, I KNEW THAT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. BUT, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO DID WHAT AND WHEN. THE BUILD SHEET EVEN SAYS IT WAS SOLD ORIGINALLY IN S.C.

WOULD LIKE TO FIND A POWER DRIVER'S SEAT MOTOR & TRUE FACTORY GAUGE/TACH CLUSTER.

I HAVE HAD THE MOTOR PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT (DISCOVERED IT WAS A 72 402 BLOCK) BY A RACING SHOP. DYNO'D OUT AT 412 HP! SHE SCREAMS...

The motor seams to set to high in the front. My question is, do I have to use the factory rubber mounted motor mounts or do they make a shorter solid motor mount? The fan is so sharp that Ireally do want to cover it with the shroud. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I have recently purchased a white 1970 Chevelle SS. I'm not really sure if it is a true SS. It has all the cosmentics of an SS, (big block, big block springs, cowl hood, SS dash cluster SS, guages, bumper pad), but also has some questionables (bench seat, 10 bolt rear end)
What exactly makes an LS5, or LS6 Chevelle?
I hope to finish my car sometime in Spring of 2000.
This isn't my first Chevelle, my first was when I was 16, now I'm 29. The car is a favorite to me because of the year I was born. The only true muscle car!!!!!
I am looking for parts if anyone can help. I need headers, turn signal lenses (clear), emblems, bushings for front end to frame assembly. and more!!!
E-mail me with any help

Back in the day this car was a 10 second street/strip terror, oh yea, tunnel ram, 4 speed & all, no nitrous back then, just muscle. Since then its come around & back to stock, currently has edelbrock performer rpm heads, comp cams street roller, 850 holley, M-22 & 4.56 gears. Cragar s/s wheels, 15x4 fronts, 15x8 rears with moroso drag tires & M&H street slicks out back. The car only has 36k miles on the clock, its red with black stripes, cowl induction, black interior,
buckets & console. This car still has 11 second Et's in it, even thru the full exhaust & chrome exhaust tips. Runs on pump gas too. Any other Ls-6 owners out there want to talk? Just e-mail me. This engine was & still is a mother. Those magazine articles & road tests were true, no B.S. Glenn S.

I have a 70 Chevelle Malibu, and am building a 350 for it.
I have a question that I hope someone can shed some insight on.
I have the motor all complete but the heads, intake, and cam.
I,ve already have plans to put a crane cam (216/268 dur.@.050,and454/480 lift with 112 lobe sep.in the 2000-5000 rpm range), but my question is for the heads, a buddy said that the local racers have been using 2nd generation heads on 1st generation blocks changeing the angles of the center 4 bolt holes on the intake is all you need to do to make this work. They claim to make more HP with these heads using 194 valves because the bowls are bigger due to most of the newer cars being fuel injected. Has anyone else heard of this, and if so does it really work? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Also has bench seat w/auto, interior is gold. Has functional cowl induction with hood pins. Engine block is a CE(GM warrantied replacement)dated 1971, but the heads are dated April/1970.I'm going to try to finish this car by Spring 2000, then probably sell it. My next car will be a 1970 SS454 Chevelle with A/C,console and buckets preferably Fathom Blue with white stripes.
If you are interested in a 70SS454, I will have one for sale hopefully in about 8 months and the price will be right! Might consider a trade toward the Fathom Blue car I just described.

Comments: I have a '70 SS 454 (original LS6 car) that has been restored several years ago. Not a "100 point" car, but a nice driver with no rust and new chrome/suspension/blk vinyl top/dash/headliner/electrical,400 tranny, etc. The car matches the build sheet/cowl tag/vin #, but the motor is a tired '78 454. I like the car a great deal, but tried to sell it (unsuccessfully) for a couple of years now. I never could decide if I should make the motor back to LS6 specs/make it a real matching # car (which means I can't really drive it), or do something less radical. Anyway, I've decided to place a 454 HO crate motor into the car. Then just drive it when I feel like it. Presently, the engine has leaking headers (hate that), and I thought I would replace them on the crate motor with stocker iron exhaust manifolds. What's the deal on these? Do all BB exh't 'fold fit, or just some? Anyone with some knowledge in this area would be helpful. Thanx in advance.

I have done a complete overhaul on the 350 motor and turbo 350 trany. Have replaced both inner and outer front fenders, both rear panels and trunk, new door skins and a new gas tank and gas line. The new interior will include bucket seats console and floor shifter. I have also replaced the hood with a full functional cowl system. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM... is finding a replacement SS dash with a tach gauge cluster..HELP.. if you can. Comments: this car was my fathers car from since before i was born...and i was raised around this car.2 years before my dad died(i was 5 at that time) we stoped the restoreing and started the hotrodding... and that got me into the sport of racing... and since then the car has over gone alot of changes,it started life as a 70 chevelle ss ls6 ,and ended up being a 9 second street legal terror(9.53@146mph to be exact)and has a full fiberglass front end, doors, deck lid ,10 point cage,700hp motor 4.11(street),4.88(track) gears and a full list more i am still only 19, so as time goes on and my funds rebuild up(was left $23,000 in my fathers will) the car will keep getting better..and if you would care to talk to the fastest girl in my city you can e-mail me at the first address or at "RFchevelle@aol.com" and we can talk.... thank you for reading... live safe but live in the fast lane (the only way to live)

Comments: I got a 70 Chevelle Malibu that ive had since 98 with a 350 motor/tranny that i am currently restoring now. I just had the motor rebuilt and it runs really sweet and i got all the engine, electrical, and suspension work done and all i got left is a little body work, slap a new paint job on it and a new interior. Its a good lookin car (light metallic green) and it can lay some rubber too. The new Cragar SS wheels and radial T/A tires really set the car off. Im thinking about painting it either the same color, fathom blue, or dark metallic green with a black or white vinyl top and I might put a cowl hood and SS stripes on it too. If anybody has any body parts for sale or any engine/paint suggestions please email me. -peace-

Comments: I am trying to locate previous owners of a car I have owned since 5/97. It is a blk/blk 70 with a 72 454 block. It has a Borg Warner T-10, and a 12 bolt that used to have 4.56's. When I bought it, it had a blk interior, but the stock color is Ivory or pearl depending on what book you read. It also had strips on it, but I don't believe it came with them from the factory. The car was acquired by Big Boys toys (Lussiers Corvette City) in New Hampshire in 1984, then went through 4 other owners before I got it. It had some drag race mods done to it at some juncture, solid bushings, drivshaft loop, etc etc, but was never cut up. It was built in Lakewood Ga. I know this is a real SS, but I dont know which version because of the engine swap and no build sheet was found during disassembly. It is in full resto now, 75% complete and will appear for the most part stock. If you think you might have owned this car sometime between 1970 and 1984, PLEASE contact me. Thank you in advance. Jay C.

Comments: I have a 70SS with the LS5 motor, automatic, bench seat, NON-posi 331 rear end and cowl induction. The car has VERY strange options; on the cowl tag...paint code is - - (deleted), and on the build sheet, under the options list it says; ZP3 SPCL PAINT.
Also at the bottom of the sheet it says; HOOD,ENTIRE BODY,FRT FENDERS 927-98457 GOLD METALLIC ACRYLIC LACQUER
(next line); WHEELS. 767-98457 GOLD METALLIC BAKING ENAMEL.

Am I mistaken or are the wheels on my car supposed to be Gold Metallic? The body color mentioned above is a (I believe) a Cadillac color (GM #56).
Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I just bought a 70 Chevelle SS in December. The car didn't come witha big block (had a 327 in it). I put in my 350/375hp when I got the car. It came with 4 speed and 4.10 12-bolt posi rear.

I swapped out the 4.10 today for a 2.56 10-bolt open for Hot Rod's Power Tour this year in May. The previous owners put in a homemade "lift" kit on the rear end. They put in a 2.5" spacer on the lower coil mount. This put the rear end at a nice ride height with my 275/60-15's. The 2.56 rear doesn't have this spacer put in (it shouldn't because it wasn't factory). The car now sits too low. I don't want to use the old set-up because it involved a "C-clamp" set-up that wobbled the rear end under acceleration. I am wondering what would be better to get the car back up 2.5". Please e-mail me with your suggestions. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

(This includes a record album produced by chevrolet that came with the car.) It has a 307 engine in it. I am not familiar with the 307, and have not decided whether or not to swap in a 350. (Several folks "in the know" have told me that the 307 would be best used as a boat anchor and that it was one of the few mistakes in chevrolet history.) I added torq thrust 2's with 235-60-15 Hoosiers all around. Considering a fiberglass cowl hood, I don't know, Should probably get a quad (it's got a 2BBL now). Just got a return to sender from an inquiry to the guy whose name is on the title they gave me at the "antique store"...sort of a mystery car, the green phantom.

This car is a basket case.It was made in late 69, the vin matches
the block stamping number, which shows it to be an LS5. It has a M22, no air and manual steering. All the date codes on the motor, intake ,carb, dist and heads fall with in 2 months of each other,
which fall within a month before the car was built. But I have one problem the heads are rectangle port.
My question is, did GM ever mix rectangle ports heads with a oval port intake?
Any help would be appriciated Thanks

Comments: Hi Folks! I just finished a full frame off restoration of a 1970 Chevelle SS 454, orig. a 360 Horse LS5 V8. I was told from the fellow I bought the heap off of, that it was numbers matching. I've decoded the VIN, and the car was made in canada.
I've read somewhere that you can obtain from GM canada the original build sheet and car info for any car made for GM in canada. I can't for the life of me find the address or a phone number or something about where I can get the information for this. If anyone knows, I'd really love to hear from you via email, if possible.
The car now is (it was a green w/ white stripe) a fathom blue w/ white stripe, frame up resto with a 550ish (dyno'd) 460 bb chevy, 3.31 posi 12 bolt (original, supposedly) TH400 w/ shift kit, (orig tranny, supposedly), hotchiks rear arms, and low profile tires on 15" wheels that look way to small for the car (they are only 26" tall, don't fill the wheelwell.. and it dosen't make much for crusing RPM's)
Any ideas on what my car would run or what it weighs would be nice too.. I've heard folk tell me it weighs 3500, other saying 4000. It's all factory sheetmetal, (not a spot of rust on it, but thats one reason I payed 4k for a junkheap with an interior that looked like it was under water, with the engine in the guys garage..).

Thanks!
Matt

The car has all of the factory gauges and console in it also. I was wandering if anybody new what 022 meant on the cowl tag. There's a article on a 1970 SS that a GM employee at the testing ground's in Phoenix AZ. built. He's using a high rise manifold with the cowl induction hood. I was wondering how he got the cowl induction air cleaner to fit under the hood. I'm using a edelbrock performer intake, but I can't use the cowl inducton air cleaner because of clearance problem's. Has anyone run into this problem and is there a cure without switching back to the stock low rise manifold? Thank's, Nick nicpal@aol.com

Email: <aguada@crosslink.net>
Location: VA,
Comments: Bought the Chevelle from the original owner. She was a lady who had back problems. The Chevelle was ordered in Dec 69. Matching #s, with Cowl Induction, 396/350, bucket seats, Forest Green with black vinyl top, original wheels. It was built in Canada. Only Canadian built Cheveles "CAN" be identified as true SS by just reading the Cowl Tag. The last line of the cowl tag should have a Z25 for 396/350hp or a Z15 for the LS6 454/450hp. What makes my Chevelle unique is that the lady ordered the Chevelle with bucket seats but no console. It has column shift. Does anyone has a 70 SS with this combination? She kept all the documentation for the Chevelle including original Retail Order For A Motor Vehicle, receipts from the down payment and payoff, original invoice and original window sticker. I found on the back of the passenger seat the original built sheet. From GM Canada I got the "Option Package" which matches the built sheet. She also documented the mileage from the date she first put gas on the Chevelle. For this she had a log book with the following information: date, mileage, amount purchased, octane, price per gallon, location of the gas station, amount purchased. Along with all this she had all the receipts of all the repairs done to the Chevelle from 1970 to the day she sold it to me. All I have done is detailed the engine compartment. After is paid off I will be paint the Chevelle the original color. My Chevelle is one of 3,306 built in Canada with the L34 engine to be sold in the USA.
