Comments: I am currently restoring a 70 SS454 LS-6 convertible. I would really appreciate help in attempting to decifer some info contained on the data plate. I have checked with some of the obvious so called "experts" but with no success. My car was built in Baltimore in the first week of Feb.1970. My question is what the !%$#&@*& does the X 1 stamped above the BODY #' on the tag mean????
This is my car's tag info. as it appears on the car!

BODY BY FISHER X 1

TR 755 75 A PNT

If there are any of you that have a simular X 1 stamped on
the Data Tag or knowledge of what it means I would greatly appreciate your comments!!!!!

Comments: I'm looking for previous owners of a 70 SS that I have. The car was in Nebraska from 1972 until the late 1980's. At that time, I believe it was Forest Green with white stripes and a green interior. I believe it to be an original LS6 car. I've spoken with the last registered Nebraska owner, and he bought it in 1986 with no motor or transmission. It had about 37,000 miles on it at that time, so it certainly was not driven extensively. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who may have some information about it; there couldn't have been too many Forest Green SS Chevelles in Nebraska, even back then.

To be honest, it is an SS look-alike but has been restored, looks great and I love this car.

Comments: I currently own a '70 2Dr Malibu Sport Coupe and I have installed a CD player. The problem I am having is that when there is a slight change in the voltage (i.e. turning on the lights) the radio shuts itself off. Does anyone know of an aftermarket addon to help make up for the voltage problems associated with old cars? Any help will be MUCH appreciated!! :))

Comments: Currently ,I have three Chevelles . I have owned numerous over the years and find myself concentrating my attention to the 1970 Chevelle SS 454. I have a Arlington, TX built LS-6 coupe, Black with White deck stripes. I recently stumbled across a Baltimore built convertible that I could not resist. Unfortunately the original engine is gone and so the search begins! I am semi- confident that the rag top is an LS-6, but of course without the build sheet it makes for a difficult task to document the car. The convertible was originally Cranberry red with stripe delete/non cowl induction. The interior consists of the Black bench with 4 speed.

One unique item that I have never seen before is the X 1 code that is stamped into the top of the data plate. This does not appear to be any RPO that I have ever seen before.

The LS 6 convertibles have always fascinated me because of all the mysteries behind them, I guess this could be another mystery?????????

I have been replacing consumable parts to store away and make the car a much better driver.
Installed Firestone Firehawk SS10 235/60R14 tires on the stock rims with dog dish hub caps, replaced the original shocks with Bilsteins all around, installed Addco anti-sway bars front and rear, the ride and drive is unbelievable!
This is a rare car, Chevy only produced 8003 of them.

Comments: It is finally "done"....at least mostly. I have spent almost 3 years restifying (upgrading to newer technology and parts while maintaining the "stock" exterior appearance) on my 70SS. It is torch red with black stripes and black pinstriping. It has 540 ci. Gen V crate motor that was bored and stroked. It also has a Crane FULL roller valvetrain (.587/.610 lift, dual pattern) 2.19/1.88 valves, Hypereutectic pistons, Lunati forged crank to 4 bolt mains, total seal rings, 8 quart oiling system, HV oil pump with full scraper and diamond stripper windage control, stock Gen V highrise dual plane aluminum intake, Howard Stewart H2O pump, Al/ceramic coated Hooker comps to a true 3" exhaust (Dynomax oversize cans), all MSD ignition featuring a programmable timing box for billet MSD distributor, 6AL box, 8mm Helicore wires and Blaster 2 coil. A 900 CFM 4 barrel throttle body fuel injection (Holley Projection) system. I just passed emmisions today (easily passed at idle and cruise). I did the paint and body work myself (BC/CC) which took about 4 months.
12 bolt Posi with new 3.73, Auburn Pro-series Posi (`````welded tubes) which I setup after much study and tooling to set it up. New 3" thick wall non-tapered driveshaft (1350 series yoke to a custom T400 with extra clutches, 34 element sprague, Transgo valve body and 2000 stall convertor), rebuilt urethane frontend and rearend, new body bushings, springs all corners, factory console, functional cowl induction, 10 disc CD changer, extensive new parts and fully documented with receipts. Goodrich 275-60-15 RWL T/A's rear for street (with drag radials for the fun stuff) mounted on Cragar SS mags.

I learned a lot building this car. I did 95% of all work including all paint and bodywork. I also broke 2 fingers, aggravated 2 herniated discs (twice no less), literally put blood, sweat and tears in to this $%!@## thing. It runs reasonably well yet makes some unidentified suspension noises. Frontend to be aligned tomorrow then headliner Wednesday and then it is "mostly" done. Still need to replace the new master cylinder as it is leaking, get new throttle cable (it is sticking) and dial in the fuel injection a bit more. Hamburger Hi Torque mini starter still grinds after 4 attempots to shim it (New flexplate, #2 cables and 1000 amp rated battery). Don't buy one of these starters is my suggestion. Buy a done car if you can unless you know what you are doing or have a tremendous amount of time, money and stubborness and insist on doing it all yourself. It is a money and time pit....BIG TIME AND BIG MONEY.
Best wishes and Merry Christmas.

So far I have been able to determine the following from internet stories and the code books and G.M. books that I have.

ST 70 13637 A 47201
TR 755 B80 B90 14B
05B 349 853 430 487

The 13637 in the first line means it is a 1970 Malibu Sport Coupe - all this means is that it has 2 doors and the guage package, I think.

It was built the second week in May in Atlanta as indicated by both the "A" in the first line and the 05B in the last line.

It was originally silver; does the "B" in "14B" mean it had black stripes??? It is now orange with white stripes. (don't look at me, I didn't paint it that way!

It had a black bench seat as indicated by the 755 in the trim code. It now has black buckets and a console.

I do not know how to read the rest of the numbers on the cowl tag. Can anyone take a stab??

Engine codes.

It evidently does not have the origninal engine. The engine code on the right front of the block reads;

TIIIJQ

I am not an expert, but I am going to quess that this is a 1969 vintage block that was originally equipped with a 2bbl carb and an automatic transmission. Am I right??? Anyone???

I have seen lots of entries on the internet about code sifer'n. I hope that one you really smart guys can help me out. I will pulling the rear end code and transmisson (it now has a 4sp) this weekend. I will be looking for the VIN code on the transmission to see if it matches.

Can anyone help me to determine if this car was sold new as a true SS396?? Was it automatic or 4 speed? Without the original drivetrain components in place I am stuck.

Regardless, it's a very solid head turning car and it is unbelievabley fast. Whoever built the motor and set up the transmission and rear end did it right.

By the way, anyone care to trade a set of 331 or 355 gears for a set of Richmond 410's. I am pulling them out this weedend and will have to buy new if I can't find a swapper.

Thanks in advance to all that answer.

I sold the car in Maryland in the mid '90's. I will trade it for a performance (stock or aftermarket) big block intake, prefer low rise to fit my '66 SS.
I want this engine back where it belongs.
Any leads?
The car was white w/black stripes, tan bench int., column auto, SS wheels.

Comments: Have a LS6 convertible that has just had the engine and trans rebuilt. I was fortunate enough to have a retired nascar mechanic build my engine for me. He lowered the compression to 9.67 so I can run on pump gas, but heres the kicker, the dyno sheet showed 525lbs torque and 515hp! Had I left the compression at the original 11.25, I'm sure it would have been a lot more hp and torque. It has 3 inch pipes from the headers to a pair of Flowmasters and 2 1/2 inch from the mufflers out with original style exhaust tips. I'm building a show-n-go not a drag car, but I am curious on a 1/4 mile time and mph, but I'll probably never try it. Next comes new paint and interior. Bright yellow with black stripes and interior. Wife say its gonna look like a bumble bee! Yellow is my second favorite color, red is my favorite but so many of these cars at shows are red, and I've only seen 1 yellow one and it was in a book. Hopefully I will sting to death a few Mustang mules here and there!

Comments: Howdy! My car is 1970 Nomad station wagon, 307 V-8, with A/C and power disc brakes. The only mods so far have been a dual exhaust with turbos and 70 series Goodyears, plus ditching the dog-dishes for some much cooler '71 factory baby moon hubcaps. The car is about 95% original... the paint is fathom blue with a blue interior (ugh), black vinyl flooring in lieu of carpets, and AM radio with the antenna in the windshield. Bench seats rule!

I've owned the car a year now, and it's my first Chevelle (but not my first Chevy... had a 1970 Caprice for two years). So far it's needed motor mounts, new bearings in the rear, water pump, plug wires, heat riser, and a heater core... and when the new water pump shaft split at 70 mph, I was granted a new radiator, fan, fan shroud, and appropriate belts (as well as another new water pump). The A/C and carb have been rebuilt, and right now I gotta get a new blower motor in there, which is a crappy job but needs to be done.

One other mess is the manual tailgate crank and lock, which just went completely south on me... I've got a replacement but need to have a key made. Also... the car is about 95% rust-free, and if I can find winter storage it would really be boss. I believe the milage is 78,000, and the previous owner was an older gentleman who was going to scrap it in a week! It had "Audabon Society" stickers in the back windows... I guess he used it for birdwatching. Happy motoring!

I saw an advertisment in a car mag [dont remember which one] for Sanderson Headers out of San Francisco for a set of "CC10/CC12" that will fit Chevells/ElCaminos so I bought a pair of CC10 for my ElCamino with a small block 350. Thinking these folks know what they are talking about I had them coated at the powder coating shop in the area. Well I am here to tell you that they DO NOT FIT!!!!!! The right side is ok, but the left side flange hits the firewall and they turn in towards the engine where the bellhousing bolts on. Sanderson replaced the CC10 left side with the CC12 left side, again thinking they knew whats up I had it coated!! Well IT DOSENT FIT EITHER!!!! The tubes bend in to far and the flange is so close to the block you cant put on the exhaust without bending it at a 90 degree angle which takes away the reason to have headers in the first place! So if you are buying headers from anyone BESURE TO TEST FIT THEM FIRST. Be smarter than me. Happy cruising and be careful!! TATA from BIG DAWG

Comments: I have a question. My grandmother has a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. She bought new and it only has 58,000 original miles on it. It is a 2 door coupe and it is like a time capsule. She has never changed or altered anything. It was maintained on a regular basis and is is good working order. The body is straight and it is original from headliner to hubcaps. It even has the original spare in the trunk with the original tire. It needs paint from sitting in the Texas sun but other than that it is a great car. My question is this. She is 86 and she wants to sell it but I have no idea of it's worth. Can anyone help me? I have pic's that I would gladly email if anyone want's to take a look at it.

I am a muscle car freak. My goal is to have one each(but not limited to one each) muscle car from each of the Brands. I would like to hear from anyone who is totally enthrawled with Super Sport Chevelles. I have much to learn about the details of restoring this car accurately.

I discovered that the two front studs in my intake manifold were broker off in there . It couldn't be fixed so I bought a used edelbrock torker 1 and put it on. In the process I rebuilt My 4 bbl quadrajet. I thought that it would run great but I was wrong. It started up and I let it warm up , I was revving it in park and getting 3,500 rpm's but when I put in drive and accelorate it coughs and want's to die. If I feather it , it will go maybe 30 mph any suggestions?

Comments: I just bought my 70 chevelle malibu 2-dr this summer. It has a good smooth running 350 except for the fact that the crank is busted because i was going down the highway one day and i had to find out the hard way my oil dummy light wasnt working so go figure! It was recently painted a light metallic green (the car is gorgeous) with a dark green vinyl top and interior. When i get some money (probably never) i want to rebuild that 350 or drop in a 400 small block and put in a 650 holley with hooker headers and a cam, and maybe repaint the body the same light metallic green and change the dark green interior/vinyl top to black. right now its got a bench seat and i like bench seats so thats not gonna change, i also want to put in a SS dash and stick some flowmasters on it so i can get rid of these old crappy, rusting dual cherry bombs. Im looking for suggestions so if you have any you know what to do. - Im also a big chevy/GM fan and i love chevelles, camaros, novas, pontiacs, some buicks, and impalas, and i actually think those corvairs look pretty cool. But i also like some fords like T-birds/mustangs/old F-150s and some mopars too like Chargers/Cudas...please dont slam me for liking other cars too its a free country and if you have a problem with it you can go to hell!

Comments: I have a '70 Chevelle with a big block that's supposedly a 454 (the dealer said it was, but I won't start on how shady I think he was) that's been bored .030" over. What I do know is that the motor originally came from a 1977 truck (I know, I know). I've heard that the truck motors came with heavier duty connecting rods than the passenger car ones had. Is this true? If it is would my motor have these rods? Also, about how expensive is it to have new floorpans installed? Mine are badly rotted. By the way, does anyone know of a CHEAP place to store my ride for the winter in the Chicagoland area? She already had to suffer being driven thru last year's winter (arrrrgh!!) and I don't wanna do it again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I own a 1970 chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe with a 406 small block in her dynoed at 501hp. 750 Holley DP, 1in rise Victor series intake, Trick Flow twisted wedge Aluminum heads, Holley Electric fuel pump, Cam has a 545 lift, high volume oil pump and high flow water pump, 350 tranny with 3200 stall, 12bolt rear with 373, and southside lift bars. I have aset of ceramic coated dynomax headers that i have had on it for 2 years and they are already starting to flake. I was considering purchasing some jet hot headers how do you like/think of them? I also took out the air conditioning because the condenser was shot. When I did this it left the hole in the fire wall. I ordered a cover that holds the blower motor but it doesn't fit the hole. Do that make one that fits over this hole? I was also trying to find out where I can get a rear armrest (right side)for my original forest green interior? I am also getting ready to get some body work done and get it painted. Does anyone in the area of southern maryland know of any good body shops that do good work? Any suggestions on what color would look good with my forest green interior (car color:butternut yellow)? Any of the questions of these questions answered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alot, Glenn Phipps age 19

Tranny is 700-R 4-spd auto. hooked up to a 2400 Stall. Car has been lowered 2" all around and sits on American Racing Wheels with low profile tires. It is "hugger orange" w/blk. stripes and 7 coats of clearcoat. New interior, glass, chrome, mouldings, and emblems. The car just looks mean sitting still. In my book the 70 SS is the best Muscle Car around. We are very proud of the car and enjoy showing and cruising. Had a blast at Chevell-a-bration in Nashville and planning on being there next year.

Comments: Frame-off restoration of an original 90K-mile SS 396 car. I bought it with the frame completed but just finished the suspension (I guess the previous owner didn't know that painting the old bushings doesn't rejuvenate them). Body is perfect, only one minor ding on the passenger fender which I took care of today. Originally cramberry/white/white, but no vinyl top is going back on after the paint is finished. A/C, fiberoptics, PW, PDL, gauges, bench seat/column shift, power seat, tinted glass, F41, Hotchkis front/back suspension, 3.31 12-bolt positrac, 4-wheel disc brakes, courtesy lights, rear defog, AM/FM 8-track (long gone-damn) -- I think that's about it. It's getting painted classic white with black stripes. Never seen a white/white Chevelle before. Gotta be different! This is my first Chevelle, bought it just over a year ago in Lancaster, California. It had been sitting for decades in a backyard (I wonder why no one rescued it before). The 402 started right up after a change of fluids, lines, carb rebuild, and a little oil down the cylinders as well as pre-lubing thru distributor shaft. Sounds great. What a car. If anyone needs parts I probably have them.

Comments: I recently got a good deal on a '70 ?SS? with a non-original motor. The car is gold with black stripes and gold interior. Paint and interior codes match, but I still don't know if its a real SS. It wasn't made in Canada so I can't tell anything from the Cowl Tag, and the rats had other plans for the build sheet. It has SS emblems on the fenders w/no engine size under. The car has cowl induction and the hood appears to be original. The dash is from a Monte Carlo, so that dosen't tell me anything. It has a SS steering wheel, rear sway bar and 12- bolt, and Turbo 400. The turn signal lenses are amber. There is no switch above the accelerator. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on anything else I can look for to tell me if the car is a REAL SS or not.----Thanks.

Comments: Hi, I have questions that I hope some Chevelle buffs could help me to answer. Yesterday I went to a car show and I saw a 70 SS454 LS-6. I looked it over pretty good, and noticed that there were some things about it that made me think it wasn't original. Here are my two questions: 1) Was it possible to get an SS without an anti-sway bar on the rear end? This one did not have one. 2) From what I have read, the tach on a LS-6 should have the redline starting at 6000 rpm, with all other SS cars redlining at 5500 rpm. This car's tach had the redling starting at 5000 rpm. What did this tach (or dash) come out of? A Monte Carlo maybe? Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated, just email me. Thanks.

This car was previously owned by Roger Ausley of Ausleys Chevelle parts.Currently it is Fathom blue but is soon to be cranberry red.The car has a turbo 400, manual steering, cowl hood, buckets and console, gauge package. The car will appear mostly stock with the exception of headers.Other out of sight items are,a more agressive solid cam,msd 6A(hidden),11" converter,3.90 gears, black urethane suspension bushings and the before mentioned headers with full 3" exhaust with modified stock tips. I also had an LS6 that ended up being shipped to Reggie Jackson that may still be in his collection...........

Comments: We(my wife and I) and we are enjoying working on it together, yes together when I put the 400turbo tranny in my wife and my son unbolted everything on a cold day in Feb. (outside on the carport, no garage yet),so when I got home from working a Saturday morning:OT to fund all the progects, I coould pull the old worn out 350turbo and then put the 400 in.
Our current project is building a 350 that should be pushing about 425hp when finished. It currently has a 307, runs decent but "NEED MORE POWER",Which brings me to the problem I've had since the project began last summer. After the usual mods when you first get a project was headers, dual exhaust(2.5inch) with the chrome bowtie tips from Choo Choo Customs, aluminum intake,a rochester quadrajet, and lastly the wheels and tires,(the problem)I put 15 by 10 Keystones Klassics on the back and 15 by 8's on the front with P275/60B15's on the back creating a clearance problem, so to aleviate the problem I used air shocks on the back (hate the ride and handling). the question is, is there a better way of clearing the rear tires other than tubbing. I had talked to a guy who said that he put new springs and put Koni Coil overs and that put it back to stock ride and handling with plenty of clearence for his n-50 tires. If anyone has had the same solution or another one please contact me with your solutiion, I prefer not to get rid of the big tires if I don't have to,I spent my tenage years in the 70's and love the look. By the way my first car at 16 was a 70 also, sold her when the 4 boys started coming along. Which of course from the oldest(17,11,6,and5 can look at picture of anything from a 64-72 and tell you what year it is, yes even the 5 year old! and all hate Mustangs. My ultimate wish is for a 70 SS convertible, almost bought one for $8,000 but found original owner and found out it's a clone,DAMN. well hope I haven't bored you. Thanks for listening.

The sound of my M22 as I accelarate is like a 747. During the years I have owned this car,I have learned much about my Kanzas built car. Soon after the car was purchased and while taking out the back seat, one day there lodged in the back reast(one copy) and another copy sewen in the seat cover, was to my surprise the origional build sheet. Little did I know at that time what a rare find it realy was.The car now has Power Windows, door locks,Power seat backs,Tilt,Tinted windows,Power seat,Power trunk, Light Monotoring System,Map Reading Light Custom Seat Belts,AM FM 8 Track Radio, and Rear Defoger. The only Option That I want to install is The Electro tip . I have managed to Buy The Relay and the Electro Tip However I am Looking to buy the wirring harness. If you can help me please let me know.

I think it was optioned rather odd from the factory. 307 - 3spd. on the column - buckets - no console - ps/pb/ac. Maybe not... just seems odd to me. Astro blue - bright blue int. and white top. It sat for 12 years before I bought it (80 - 92). There is hardly any rust on it even floor pans and trunk is good.

- The interior doesn't have any SS emblems. I'd be suspect of this option but the parts mgr at the Chev dlr says he is familiar with the car and it is original. Did the Camino come without the SS interior?
- I'm starting the resto for the 2nd time (got the car in high school in '78!) after I finish my wife's Grand National. What are the maximum (read: practical) tire and rim sizes I can go with on this vehicle? I had 225/70R15's before but they bottomed out on the front.

Thanks - Dan

The car has been restored from the inside - out (Astro blue w/ black buckets). It's got a rebuilt 454 (4 bolt main 11.0 - 1), TH-400 (B&M Starshifter), domed pistons, stainless steel valves, 750cfm Holley, Crane cam, Hooker competition headers, TCI 2400 Stall, 2 1/2" dual chambered Flowmasters, fresh chrome including Crager SS's, BFGoodrich Radial T/A: 225/14's up front & 295/15's in the rear (by the way - the "Beast" will break loose those rear tires on dry smooth pavement at well over 40 m.p.h.!). Suspension improvements include: rear gas bags and Monroe highrider shocks, larger front springs, and a thicker front anti-sway bar. The four wheel drum brakes have got to go. The drivetrain has less than 2k on it. Estimated engine output is over 525 bhp(I think it's a conservative guess). With the GM 12bolt and 4.56 gears, I'd say I can get high 11's out of it.

Comments: I have a 70 Chevelle I just bought. It has a 396 with a 12 bolt-T400 tranny w/posi.. The car is not SS equipped as the motor was taken out of a 66 Chevelle SS.. I am doing a restoration to make it an SS.. It runs about a 12.5 1/4.. The carb is a carter which is giving me problems. Any suggestions on a better carb and size (it has a 700 CFM on it). I would like to try a 750 cfm carb.. Any ideas on value once it is completed (I am going to paint it metallic green w/ a white SS stripe).. Please e-mail me.

Comments: I currently have a 70' convertible that was originally a 402 350 hp 4spd. After driving the car for 4-5 years I decided it was time for more horse power. You know how it goes, at this point the car is gutted to the back seat. Everything beyond headligts is new?! What have I gotten my self into??..... Anyway, I found & installed a 454 engine that's dyno'd in excess of an LS7, that, with a beefed turbo-400, a few suspension tricks and my goal of May 1 on the road looks possible. You might say that via the telephone I've created a personal relationships with many folks at; Summit, OPG, Year One, Natl. parts depot, Clock Doc, the list goes on.....

Right now the car sets with; headlight harness, motor, trans, hdrs, 3"pipes, paint on firewall, and bare metal to the back seat. Next, the inner fender-wells, braided stainless hoses, electrical to firewall >
In retrospect, I didn't have a clue what I was getting into when I started this project. This car was a frame off when I bought it, yes frame off, the motor, that's another subject, lets say I basically bought a beautiful paint job.....?

In all honesty the reason for the original purchase of the car was to haul my daughters grade school float, (she made princess,! we didn't have a tow vehicle and hey, a father has to step in and help out sometimes right?? Great excuse huh? My wife rolls her eyes on that one. Anyway, now the gray convertible W/black stripes is gona haul the ole'gray haired guy down the block or where ever he wants to go and if necessary, very very quickly.... Good luck to all you chevelle owners out there!

deal was a shiny emotional buy to begin with However, I'm close to 50 years old and the prospect of firing up this thing is getting me a little excited

I have also thought of having the parts powder coated at the same time. I would like to hear from those of you who have had this done. I want to know if it worked out as you planned, has it held up was there a way to do it better. Or, what is the "ultimate way to treat the frame and componets. Its ready to go this weeek so let me hear from ya!

Comments: After a recent restoration, my car is now painted candy apple red with black stripe. It has a 350/350 combo, gets "good" gas mileage, and has been a dependable college car. The interior has bucket seats out of a 96 Z28, has the factory A/C, 3 3/4" Autometer gauges, and a Pioneer system that is plenty loud.
Right now, though, I need to find a dash, preferably ss style to replace mine that was broken when the stereo was ripped off this summer. Also, does the dash out of a Monte Carlo or other year Chevelle fit in here with minimal changes. I would love to get rid of the plastic dash for something that is metal, but being the poor college student, I guess I can't be too choosy.

There can't be too many as the build sheet says "special paint" in hand writting on the "SHEET", and the paint charts don't list any orange as available in '70. This car was built in Baltimore in september of '69.

Does anyone have information about making such a swap? Can I remove the wood grain dash insert or is it best to paint over (black)? I have the wiring harness for the Monte, do I use it or my existing?

I read an artical in HOT ROD JUNE 1987 that states you can use the front brakes off camaros up to 1979. I then heard they reprinted this artical in HOT ROD JUNE 1990 that states you can use the parts up to a 1980. Does anyone know what is and is not usable?

Need the skinny...

Comments: I have a 1970 chevelle SS 396 I ordered this car in Nov of 69
received it Dec 12 69. I paid 4148.50 thats TTL included. The
original color was Forest Green W/white stripes. The reason that
I had to order it is because I wanted a bench seat W/four speed.
It had a cowl induction hood all the instruments-396 350 HP. The
reason I did not buy an LS-6 was that it did not come W/Air. This
one I ordered w/air. In 1992 after 174000 miles I restored it,
but I bored the engine which was not a 396 but a 402 cu.in
I balanced it installed a Competetion Magnum Cam 280 duration
with a 520 lift rockers w/roller tips a much bigger clutch-
scatter schield, Edelbrock rpm Intake w/750 Holly the intake
valves are 2190's and 1885's exhaust the pistons are fly cut. The
crank stayed the same.Needless to say this car rock and rolls
pretty good, I also installed Hooker competion Headers w/21/2
exhaust w/ cross over pipe also a Hurst comp shifter, every thing I took off this car I still have.I have had this car 28 years.
thanks - Alfred Magallanes

Comments: I'm 16 years old and the proud owner of a rusty 70' malibu with a 307 and powerglide. Currently I'm in the process of restoring the beast, I have the engine torn down to the bare block and am rebuilding it. It will have an Edelbrock performer intake, and a Holley 600cfm 4brl. Nothing real fancy but a good runner. When I'm finished I plan on Painting it Black Cherry w/ Black racing stripes. Does anyone know the original paint code for the Black Cherry color from 1970. Since my father is a painter in a local body shop I don't really have to worry about It being ugly but, I would really appreciate it if anyone who has a Black Cherry car and could tell me the paint code number. I'm a very loyal CHEVELLE fan I wouldn't own any other car, and to everyone out there who own's a 5.0 mustang I'll be looking forward to blowing you away.
