Comments: When I bought my 68 Elky for $1800, everything matched except the battery, carburetor, and distributor. I pulled out the old 327 and replaced it with a 350 + .030, and a whole bunch of extra goodies. The paint was rotting off the car, so that had to go too (it wasn't original anyway). I'm waiting for the $ to do a custom job on it because restoring it wouldn't hold the same meaning for me as it would the older generations (I'm still in college). I love my baby! You can see the before pictures (and soon the after pictures as well) at www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Flats/6781/. There's a link at both the top and bottom of the page. Comments: I have a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle that is completely original. It was left to me by my grandfather. I am wanting to sell the car because I don't have the time or money to restore it right now and I don't want to keep it sitting in a shed to rot down to nothing. The car is in very good condition, of course since it has been sitting up it needs a little work on the motor. It also needs a new paint job. The interior is in pretty good condition, but needs a little work. Everything on the car is original. I am asking $10,000 for the car but may consider less. E-mail if interested.- Tuesday, December 01, 1998 at 11:03:02 (PST)

Comments: I am SO excited about my car! I am having everything done to it because it needed lots of work. The mechanic I am paying to fix it says it will be a "runnin' dude." I am to get some estimates this weekend on a paint job. That is my delimma at this point is what color. My dad bought my first car for me when I was 16 and it was a navy blue 1970 Chevelle with the white interior. I am thinking of going that route since navy blue is still my favorite color and I have to have the interior re-done anyway - that's after the paint job. Since I found this site this morning, it makes me SO excited to get this thing finished!!!- Friday, November 20, 1998 at 06:34:51 (PST)

Comments: QUESTION. In the process of restoring a 68 Chevelle Malibu. Had a 307. I plan on building a 383. Originally it had a 5/16" fuel line. Looking through restoration catalogs a 3/8" fuel line was also used on that year. Would it be to my advantage to use the larger diameter fuel line given the fact that a much stonger engine will be used which will require more fuel. I may have answered my own question, just coureous to see if anyone has run into a problem with fuel line diameter.- Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at 18:06:54 (PST)

Comments: 68 Malibu two door hardtop. White top blue bottom. 307 3 speed with overdrive. Car was purchased new by my dad, and he gave it to my son on his 16th birthday.
Son is off to college, and not enterested in car at this time, but says dad don't sell my car. (like I would, Duh)
I would like to heat up the 307 a little. I have period double hump heads, 492's, and 4 barrel intake, and am going to put a T5 transmission in the car, because getting overdrive parts for the original transmission is nearly impossible.
Car is a good everday driver, and when in overdrive gets over 20 mpg on the highway.
Does anyone know how many cars came with overdrive in 68? when dad bought the car, it had to be special ordered, and the blue and white is all chevrolet would put on the car for some reason.- Tuesday, October 27, 1998 at 10:45:54 (PST)

Comments: I have had a major love affair with my shiny red 1968 Chevelle
coupe! Unbelieveable the amount of attention I get when I drive it! It has the Chevy (I think Corvette?)chrome mag wheels with a black interior, straight body. No four on the floor-an automatic, deluxe. Maybe some of you can give some sort of advice. I am at a point in my life where I want to start a family. All of a sudden I'm very concerned with safety, something new for me, since I've been a sport car fan all my life. Is there some way I can find out what the safety rating of this vehicle is ? I finally found a
company that stocks 3 point seat belts for my model Chevelle.
I have accepted that I may have to part with my ruby red Chevelle and go the sensible new car with airbag route. I haven't driven it in 3 months-I know that if I do, it will be even harder for me to let go. Help!- Tuesday, October 20, 1998 at 17:40:19 (PDT)

Comments: I bought my 68 Chevelle from a 85 year old lady. She said that she spoke 3 different languages while groing up in Russia. She cried when I bought it and didn't want to trade it in on her new car which she didn't like already. So she told me to take good care ot and she was going to miss it. She was the 2nd owner and bought from her friend twenty years ago. It was not in to bad of condition when I bought in February of 1996. There was 86K on an orginal 307 that had seen it's days numbered! I bought a used 350 out of a Corvette but it was run hard and starting to blow smoke a little. I had a guy by the name of Smitty who is 95 % blind but a true whiz when it comes to trannies take out the powerglide and put in a 350 T/H. Then I decided to have a new 350 engine built from a guy who works at a michine shop. My buddy John Walton replaced all the shocks, bushings, seals, and added disc brakes. I decided that I didn't need the AC because I like to hear the roar of the mototr in the outdoors. Well the exterior wasn't in to bad of shape except. I wasn't real fond of the butternut or buttercup yellow as they call it and the quarters had a little but of rust from the vinyl roof that had a little wearing in the corners but for 29 years old it wasn't in bad shape but as you Chevy didn't engineer that portion of the car very well. So now I am having two new quarters put on and new corners of the front lower fenders. I also had to replace the bulkhead in frnt of the rear window because it had rust in the corners from the little leaks in the vinyl roof. Jack from Ays is welding on the passenger side quarter and then the bulkhead so they will even up nicely. The interior had a small tear in the front seat but I decided that I gone this far already that I bought new carpet, seat covers, and trunk kit from Original Parts group. They are always real helpful when you need chevelle parts. So I am changing the color to Marina Blue and then will purchase my tires along with some old Crager SS wheels and then I hope to have this bad boy ready for the Super Chevy show in August at Bandimier speedway. I did manager to put about 800 miles on the engine before I started all the other projects and it had some good get up and go. Look out you Jap cars! I've wanted a nice Chevelle my whole life and I can't wait to get this on the road for end of summer and do some cruising!
Oh yea my wife may shoot me but I actually found another Chevelle that I am going to buy for the next project. It's a 68 Chevelle SS 396 rag top and automatic on the floor and the guy who has it in storage for the last 10 years said it was a special edition called black belt or black box (Not out of a airplane). If you have heard of this please drop me a line.
Chevy dreamer that will be crusing soon across the Rocky Mtns.

Comments: I have only owned this butternut yellow SS for a year, but it is exactly like the one I had in 71-72. The few changes that have been made to it are the same changes as on my 1st one; holley carb.,hi-rise intake, 411 gear. The car does have a Hurst shifter, the other was a Muncie. When I first heard about this big block 4-speed I just could not believe what I was reading. After a couple of long distance phone calls I bought plane tickets and flew to Colorado. Within a short time the deal was sealed. I've only had the car to some local shows but it does turn heads. Hope to have it at Chevell-a-bration in '99.- Monday, July 20, 1998 at 18:14:18 (PDT)

Comments: I have a 68 chevelle 300 deluxe coupe with the 307 200-hp V8 turbo-fire. This car is stock with 74,000 original miles. I've just recently had a re-paint done because the original paint was getting pretty thin in places. The car is nice with no dents or dings. Chrome is all intacted and nice. Just a classic lady. My question is how does a person know the value of something like this? I think I paid too much for the old girl when I purchased her, but I wanted the car and I can honestly say I'am not an experienced car buyer ( I bought from a classic car dealer)
I paid good money for her and have spent about 3,000 more for paint and small stuff. The interior is in great shape too!
My car is not an ss so does this fact make her less in demand? I also have the orignal window stickers, the dealer catalog for ordering the options, all receipts from new, and the original license plates. I'am second registered owner. Is there such a thing as putting too much into a classic?- Sunday, July 19, 1998 at 23:40:14 (PDT)

It doesn't have the correct motor. It does have the tach guage package. Also the tach has the 6000 rpm redline.Does this indicate the car is in fact an original 375 hp car?- Monday, July 06, 1998 at 17:31:03 (PDT)

Comments: I daily-drive an El Camino with 400,000 miles on it. 310,000 of those miles are mine. A mild 327 backed by a turbo 350 and an all origional (yes - seals and bearings!) 3rd member. Recently did the suspension with poly bushings, Eibach springs, 1 1/8 front sway bar, a MP Disc Brake kit, and a LEE p/s box and pump. I've built an aluminum plemun/shroud for 2 14" electric fans and have removed the fan from the H2O pump. Current projects include paint, freshening up the exterior trim, sprayed-in bedliner, and moving the batteries to the well at the front of the bed. I am desperately seeking another car now. Please help, would like a solid/dependable car in the $2500 to $3500 range if possible. Doesn't have to be finished, just a good start. Would prefer a coupe to a sedan. Please inform if you have any leads ! I still have a project '69 Camino with the engine from my Chevelle, and lots of parts to get me on the way.

Comments: Looking for my old Chevelle...I sold my Chevelle in 1987 to a guy who ended up moving to Florida, and
now I want her back!!! It was purchased new by my dad in Rapid City, SD. It was a 300 Sport Coupe, 307,
Saginaw 4-speed, bench seat, no options, Tripoli turqoise with a black interior. When sold it was Red with a black
interior, gray velour inserts, Vega GT wheel, Guages under the dash, Sun tach on the column, Kenwood stereo, 15X8
Rallys in back, 14X7 Rallys in front with BFG Belted T/A's all around. Sway bar in back, and an aftermarket rear
window defroster was installed. Grille emblem was not on the car, but the back one was. I did have the original tail
light bezels replaced with '68 Malibu ones, but did not install the cross bar chrome. The side marker bezels were
filled and blacked out. I miss this car badly, and would like to re-purchase it. If you think you know this car, please

Comments: Last November i bought my dream car. It has a 327ci motor out of a 1968 camero. It was rated at 210hp. All that ive added so far is an K/N Filter, aluminum intake, 4barrel carb, some nice headers and 2.5in aluminized exhaust with 3chamber flowmasters all the way back, a hydraulic cam (mild lift), a noisy gear drive, and an aluminum water pump. Im getting ready to put on some 305 heads with 64cc, Z28 springs, roller rockers. Now, my only problem is..it has a 10 bolt rearend..and 2.73 gears...bummer...so im going to add a 3.73 posigear..and get my TH350 longshaft rebuilt...
my chevelle is has a crappy white paint job and an SS hood that came with the car..... i love my chevelle and i will never sell it..i think chevrolet out did themselves when they made the car in 1968...
Later i plane on adding a 427ci and a M22 rockcruser...with 4.10gears... WEEEEEEE...now thats going to cost.. :)- Saturday, May 09, 1998 at 03:36:32 (PDT)

Comments: My husband and I just bought a '68 Chevelle (Concours) from a little old couple in Yoncalla, Oregon. On the sides are Concours emblems, as well as on the wood trim on the dash. The lady told me that the factory made a mistake by putting the Concours emblem on this particular car. We checked out the Concours info on your web site, and saw the picture of the rear end of a Concours. It showed a trim piece between the tail lights as well as a Concours emblem. Our car does not have the trim on the rear, and has a Chevelle emblem instead. Is my car a Chevelle, or a Concours?
As for the rest of the car, it's about as stock as you can get! 307, Powerglide tranny, no rust on the body (a little bit of surface rust only) Runs great. We drove it 500 miles back to California immediately after we paid for it. We plan to restore it to as near original condition as we can afford. It's got the original paint, Cordovan Maroon. Not in too bad of shape for 30 years! According to the sticker on the engine (by the way, all numbers match) this car was made by Chevrolet Tonawanda (Canada?)
If anyone can help me out, please drop me a line. Thanks!!

Thanks alot...- Thursday, February 12, 1998 at 17:12:18 (PST)

Comments: I hope you guys don't run me off, but I have a 68 Camaro RS convertible. I stumbled across this net site last night and I was blown away by the info. I've been looking for such a site for Camaro enthusiats but I haven't found one yet. If anyone knows of one, let me know. (I've joined the USCC and will attend local chapter meetings starting Monday).
My question is: my car is a 6 cyl 3-speed on the floor. I want to put a 4-speed in it. Does anyone know what the 1st & 2nd gear ratios of my 3-speed would be and what would be the best 4-speed to put in it? I was thinking a M20 would be better than a M21 although I'd rather have the M21.
Thanks for any help.
P.S. I used to own a 66 Chevelle wagon and I've owned 3 Corvettes (2 1967s and a 65); about a dozen Novas from 62 - 65 and 3 Camaros all first generations. This doesn't even count the 55 - 57s I had when I had pimples. So you see I'm a bow-tie lover too.- Thursday, January 29, 1998 at 15:46:13 (PST)

Comments: The only (?) '68 (?) Malibu in Russia ??? I've been offered - in fact seen the vehicle - a '68 Chevelle Malibu which has been safely stored in Western Russia since 1979. It was bought from Belgium in 1979 by an ex. master mariner.
Could anyone help me verify the actual age ('67 or '68) of this car which is in restorable condition. The VIN # is 13569HX101232 and the engine (6 cyl) is of type 184HO.
My plan is to take the car to Finland and restore here.

Comments: I have a 68 Chevelle Malibu 327 that I bought for $500.00 dollars of some old guy that had it sitting in his back yard. It needs to be gone through but right know I am putting all my time into college and saving my Chevelle for later. The car came complete when I bought it nothing is missing and the body and frame are straight. But I do have a problem with the rust in the trunk right under the back window and and on the quarter panels and bottom of the fenders. I do not plain to work on the car for a while could I get some suggestions for preventing the rust from becoming a bigger problem than I already have.

Comments: Looking for my old Chevelle...I sold my Chevelle in 1987 to a guy who ended up moving to Florida, and now I want her back!!! It was purchased new by my dad in Rapid City, SD. It was a 300 Sport Coupe, 307, Saginaw 4-speed, bench seat, no options, Tripoli turqoise with a black interior. When sold it was Red with a black interior, gray velour inserts, Vega GT wheel, Guages under the dash, Sun tach on the column, Kenwood stereo, 15X8 Rallys in back, 14X7 Rallys in front with BFG Belted T/A's all around. Sway bar in back, and an aftermarket rear window defroster was installed. Grille emblem was not on the car, but the back one was. I did have the original tail light bezels replaced with '68 Malibu ones, but did not install the cross bar chrome. The side marker bezels were filled and blacked out. I miss this car badly, and would like to re-purchase it. If you think you know this car, please send me a message. Thanks!!!- Monday, January 05, 1998 at 15:09:08 (PST)

It had a 307 with about 77,000 miles on it and black interior with buckets and a powerglide w/console. It would really mean alot to me if anyone could help me track it down. I lost it in a divorce, and I want it back! Can you help?- Sunday, January 04, 1998 at 12:06:38 (PST)

Comments: I had a '68 Chevelle Malibu in 1975 to 1978 when I lost it in a divorce. Beautiful car! Then I found a project '68 SS in the weeds that is an original SS. I plan to restore it when all of the kids are grownand gone say about 4 more years. I have everything but the drive line. Many parts need replaced though.
Originally it housed a 350hp/396 and I need one that will match the car because I plan to restore it to the buikd sheet exactly!
I know good luck. would like to hear from you!- Sunday, January 04, 1998 at 11:35:29 (PST)
