Comments: 64 Chevelle, built at the Fremont Ca. plant. I bought it in Ariz. and towed it back to Il. It needs all weather stripping replaced(dry rot) and the rag joint replaced. Does anyone know if there anything special that needs to be done when replacing it, other than unbolting it and putting the new in its place. The car also has a 283/t350 with air, and pwr. steering. Future plans are new int., paint, posi rearend, and a disc brake upgrade along with rebuilding the frontend and adding new springs all around.

Comments: "Last night I was rear ended". I have a 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS 2 door hard top. If you look further down the list you should find 2 other entries regarding my car. After an extensive or should I say expensive restoration I was finally able to tour around in the car I have owned since I was 13, I'll be 40 soon.

The car that hit me was a 1990 Lumina, no visible damage on his car. Mine however requires a rear clip. I called the Auto Tin Man, he is going to look around and will let me know what can find. He's retiring in November.

I was planning to redo the front end in a year or 3, we repaired the fenders and doors. I guess now is the best time to replace them.

If you have or know someone who has any 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS doors, fenders, rear end sheet metal, parts for sale, Please let me know.

Tom.

Can anyone tell me why some have pillars and some don't? Are there benifits to either design besides looks? Are no-pillar cars worth more? Thanks for the help.

Comments: I have a '64 Malibu SS with a 427 cid (454 block), 3/4 race cam, 750 cfm Holley, Edelbrock Torker manifold. Engine tosses out about 425 HP. Care had a frame on resto in '96 and the engine dropped in '99. Tranny is a H350. Rear end is a 3.36 posi. 15X8 Chrome Rally's with BF Goodrich white letter TA radials. Interior is white with red dash and carpet. Auto console shift with a B&M pro stick shifter. Full set of Auto meter gauges including steering column Tach. Just a few minor things to do cosmetically. I am still attempting to get more engine cooling as this monster was bored .060 on the rebuild. Car was built with factory AC and I intend to re-install. Beautiful red exterior. A real head turner and sounds & performs great. Still have the original SS caps proudly displayed on the garage wall.

Comments: My Malibu SS came with power steering and power brakes. The person that owned the car before me mickey moused everything. I know that the original setup was close, but I don't understand what's happening. Any advice (where to find a diagram of the setup, personal knowledge, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Well all the body is now finished, and painted a very nice guards red the trunk is like new,and under the hood looks better than it did when it left the factory. I have recouvered the interior to look original, and have also installed new carpets with soundproof underlay. I am now installing a new ragtop or should i say trying to install new ragtop, hopefully things will get easier soon.
I still have to put all the badges on the car along with front end shiny parts, bumpers and ass bits.I have already built a new engine up from a 350-4 bolt and am following it with a 200-4r tranny. The engine has eldelbrock dome and high valve covers, flat top 30 over pistons,268 cam, stock polished crank with new bearings.Useing 327 heads that are home polished and ported and the valves done the old fashioned way.Ihope to get this in in the next week if not to busy, oh yeah i have also detailed this engine myself and painted it to match the car. Chrome oil pan, chrome waterpump, and pullies, to match the chrome a-arms.
This has taken most of the summer and now the winter but will be ready in the spring, come hell or high water.
Chevelles for-ever.

I then realized that there was no fuel getting to the carb. So i went out and bought a new fuel pump for the car, and the car still wouldnt fire up. Then i figured the gas line was frozen up, but its not because i loosened up the connecting part of the gas line and gas began to drip out. So the line couldnt be frozen. What could be the problem??? The generator and power steering pump are both on the driver's side of the car. The generator mounts to the bottom of the block and the power steering pump mounts to the top of the head. I just can't figure out how to mount the 2 brackets that are used to adjust the tension in the belts. Any pics or diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Comments: (1) 1964 Chevelle 300 2dr with original 230 cu in. "Three on the tree." I had to replace the original unsynchronized 3 spd with a fully synchronized 3 spd from '73 Chevy pick up. The block cracked and I am in the process of putting in a 250 cu in. Since the engine and gearbox are no longer original I am considering putting a powerglide in it. My friend has given me a tilt steering column that is for a powerglide out of a 1964 El Camino.

(1) 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS. This one still has the original drivetrain in it. This car is also "Three on the tree." I'd like to keep this one original. The radiator, carb and gas tank are not original so I'm currently hunting for these items.

Drivetrain consists of a Manual VB turbo 400, 3500 TC Chromemoly Driveshaft, and fresh 12 bolt 4 series carrier posi with 3:73's(Richmond gear) It's also running 2.125" Headers into 3.5" Top 10 Flowmasters, its a pump gas motor that will yank mid 11's on 93 octane, crank some timing in it with some good gas 116 octane and it'll drop nearly a half second off that. It also has an adj 100-225 N20 system on it, when the need for some real speed hits;) Anyway last time out I had some probs hooking up (dead track) the car is reliable enough to drive everyday but most of the time its sits the motor has less than 5000 miles on it. Anyway I'm rambling on to the TECH question:) Last time I had it out on the street I got caught in the rain, I did my customary pull over and wait until the road drys enough to were I won't swapends or paint with anybody and I noticed the Winshield was leaking at the base and the dash is rusting out all along this area. How do I pull this dash and fix the prob or can it be fixed by replacing the cowl area?

Painted in Ermine White and trimmed in small SS emblems and hub caps. This car was my grandfathers company car at Chevey Chase Cheverolet in Maryland where he worked the better part of his life after world war 2 until 1987. I bought the car from him so he could get his first Cadillac. He was the state inspector and master mechanic for cheverlot in Maryland. The car was well taken care of and now in my 30's I tool-around town and at least 2-3 times a month and I am always pulled over by the local Sheriff's department. As always, conversation about the car. It's funny but I would like to make it to a destination one time without being stopped, hunked at or asked by the person next to me at the light, "Is that car for sale?" No, just taken a drive.

Comments: I have a nice 64 El Camino (aquamarine). I'm looking for a set
of wheel covers that I would describe as follows:

They are basically solid, with a round center that extends outward, as well as 3 solid "spokes" extending out from the center, which if one of them
points to 12:00, the other 2 would point to 4:00 and 8:00.
My "El Camino & SS Muscle Portfolio 1959-1987" book
has several pictures of the 64 with these wheel covers.
Sorry I don't have a better way to describe them.

If you have these, or know where I might look, I'd love
to hear from you. Thanks!

Comments: Hello, My 64 chevelle has been in the family since day one. My uncle bought it right out of the dealer's show room in 64. It was canadian built at the GM plant in Oshawa Ontario. Series 5837, 2 door hardtop malibu ss. 283cdi@220hp, 2 speed power gilde console shift. Paint code ww (diplomat blue?), Trim code 741 (light or medium blue?). I talked my dad into buying it for me when I was 10 or 12. Dad drove it for a few years then he parked it in the back yard. In the early 80's I started working on fixing it up, as best and as fast as a teen can go. I drove it for 3 or 4 summers then parked it in the garrage. Last August we pulled it out and transported it over to a restoration shop. (out by the Ford plant where they assemble the crown vic's and grand marq's) The reso shop estimated 15k to 20k cdn to fix it up. It looks like is going to come in around 25k. I went to the 99 fall Carlisle in PA and picked up some nos but mostly repo parts and moldings. I never had much use for the web until last August, I,ve been searching for nos parts and memorabilia. Please feel free to contact me if you have any 1964 chevelle related questions.

Question, my chevelle did not come with rear seat, seat belts. I don't think is manditory to have them installed, but should I? In the eye's of safety to my back seat passengers I definitly should. If I do decide to install rear seat belts where should the anchor points be?

Comments: Recently purchased a 1964 'Mino, lot! of work to be done. Has a 1984 Camaro 305 with a Turbo 350(shift kit?) Have replaced most of the front suspension parts as it was pretty beat up. Am now in the process of beginning!! some body restoration and will more than likely need some input as the 1964 Chevelle manual(shop, factory assembly, wiring, and owners- yes, I bought all four) seem to have a definite lack of info on the 'Mino itself.
As my intention is to get this baby to whatever degree of originality finances and time allow, would be very interested to find out if there is any kind of restoration manual for 64's that goes into pretty decent detail, i.e. *does the rear window fit in the channel there or is it installed on the outside of the channel?*
Any information/suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thanx and have a good day :~)

Subsequent to running the car accidentally over a cliff it was sold to a kid in Sioux City Iowa who may have just wanted the parts ( the car still drove but the grill was smashed and possibly the frame twisted ) I'd like to have the car back --- it would have been easier to save than almost any of the Chevelles I've owned since. As far as I'm concerned, no matter what kind of pieces are left, this is the only car that was really built just for me.

Comments: My paint code reads 938, but none of the codes match the colors on the charts. Does anyone have the color name?
My console has buit up grit in it. I've tried soaking and scrubbing with a fingernail brush, but can't get all of the build up out. Is there something else I can use to get this back to showroom?
